When it comes to the world of DC Comics, the most dangerous threats the heroes of the multiverse tend to face in their big crossover events are usually of cosmic origin. From the classic Crisis on Infinite Earths and Final Crisis to the more recent Dark Nights: Metal and Justice League: No Justice storylines, the threats of the multiverse and the cosmic villains are the strongest around.

Those threats often include weapons and artifacts that can alter reality as our heroes know it. With that in mind, here are the ten most powerful cosmic artifacts in the DC Universe.

10 Warworld

One of the first artifacts of cosmic origin that deserves some recognition is the mighty planet Warworld, which, in reality, is a massive battle station/planet. While the continuity from Pre-Crisis to Post-Crisis has changed the origins of the planet somewhat, either way, the mighty Warworld was created as a massive weapon that hooked the planet’s defenses into the user who sat in the chair of the planet.

Most notably used by the DC villain Mongul, Warworld has been taken and used by other villains like Brainiac before nearly destroying the Earth. Thankfully, Superman and others stopped him.

9 Nth Metal

One of the most powerful cosmic substances in the universe has to be Nth metal. The powerful heavy isotope of iron, the material’s origin comes from the planet Thanagar. This world is the home planet of the Thanagarian armada, and the home of the heroes Hawkman and Hawkgirl, a.k.a. Carter Hall and Shiera Saunders.

The most recent use of Nth metal comes from Dark Nights: Metal, in which the metal proved to be used to turn Batman into a portal into the Dark Multiverse. This process switched him with seven evil versions of himself, including the Bat Who Laughs villain.

8 Cosmic Staff

One iconic cosmic weapon has to be the Cosmic Staff. Created by Ted Knight, a former member of the JSA and the hero Starman, Ted created the Cosmic Staff to absorb stellar energy and redirect it to give the wielder a wide range of various abilities to fight crime.

Some of these powers include levitation, flight, energy manipulation, defensive force fields, and all-powerful blasts of energy from the staff itself. After being created by Ted Knight, the staff became more well known for being the weapon of Justice Leaguer Stargirl, the teenage hero who’s real name is Courtney Whitmore.

7 Central Power Batteries

One of the more powerful artifacts in the universe has to be the central power batteries of the emotional spectrum. The most infamous of these, of course, is the Green Lantern Central Power Battery of Oa. Home of the Green Lantern Corps, the power battery was created by the Guardians of the Universe to harness the raw power of the green lantern energy of willpower.

However, there are several other central power batteries in DC Comics, including the power batteries of the Red Lanterns, the Black Lanterns, the Sinestro Corps, and even Larfleeze and the Orange Lanterns of avarice.

6 Mobius Chair

One iconic piece of cosmic technology and weaponry that is desired by many entities in the DC Universe has to be the Mobius Chair. Originally created by Metron, a powerful New God, the New 52 retconned the origins of the chair to have been created by the Anti-Monitor and given to Metron later on.

The chair is a time-space/dimensional travel vehicle that allows the user to witness and see the workings of the universe. Batman held the chair for a while before Owlman took control. However, he alongside Grid and Metron were taken out mysteriously soon after.

5 Mother Box

One of the most iconic and powerful cosmic devices in the DC Universe has to be the Mother Box. An invention of the Apokoliptian scientist Himon, the device is notable for being used by both Darkseid and his forces on Apokolips, and the New Gods of New Genesis.

One of the Mother Boxes most used abilities is the ability to summon Boom Tubes, powerful portals that can transport people and objects across the universe. They can also create force fields, heal users, and more. The boxes appear to have some sentience, having made sacrifices in the name of their causes.

4 White Lantern Rings

Of all the power rings of the universe, one of the most powerful has to be the White Lantern Rings. Formed at the end of the major event Blackest Night to defeat the Black Lanterns once and for all and even resurrect heroes who had passed away in previous years.

With the White Lantern Rings being neutral in the grand scheme of things, they are said to be able to overwrite the other colors of the emotional spectrum and the rings that harness them. This occurred with Hal Jordan’s green ring when the White Lantern entity possessed him.

3 Cosmic Treadmill

One of the more Earth-based cosmic artifacts that has a special place in the history of the DC Universe has to be the Cosmic Treadmill. Used by Barry Allen and other speedsters, the treadmill acts as a conduit for the raw power of the speed force the speedsters use to allow them to travel through time.

The speed force being an all-powerful, universal cosmic energy source tied into the fabric of the DC Universe overall, this device is cosmic in origin despite being used and built by Barry Allen, Wally West, and other speedy supers in the DC Universe.

2 Father Box

While the Mother Box is the most iconic device created by the Apokoliptian scientist Himon, Apokolips also created another more powerful version of the Mother Box. The Father Box was created by Mortalla, the aide of Darkseid. Its origin was shown to have been a gift to Orion to replace his destroyed Mother Box, but, unbeknownst to him, the Father Box was corrupting him to return to Darkseid’s side of the war.

It has the same powers of the Mother Box, including the ability to draw from the Source, a powerful life force of the universe beyond the Source Wall.

1 Miracle Machine

The most powerful device in the DC Universe has to be the Miracle Machine, a powerful device featured often in the Legion of Superheroes comics. Created by the Controllers and given to the Legion, the Controllers reverse-engineered the work of the Guardians of the Universe with their Green Lantern tech.

The device has the ability to allow anyone in its vicinity to alter reality and create matter using only their thoughts. The most famous use of the device has to be Final Crisis, where Brainiac 5 had Superman memorize the device’s construction, recreate it, and save reality from Darkseid.
