DC Comics is home to some of the most powerful heroes in comics, but they’re also home to an entire pantheon of gods that have popped in and out of the DC universe for a long time. These gods can range from the New Gods (created by Jack Kirby), to Greek and Japanese gods as well.

While gods like Darkseid have been terrorizing Earth and its protectors for decades now, other gods (and heroes that become gods, essentially) like Diana of Thymescura have been avidly fighting against those forces.

10 Zeus

What better way to start off an article about the most powerful gods in the DC universe than with the king of the gods himself, Zeus?

The DC versions of the Greek pantheon typically stick to what the mythology has already set up as far as powers go, but depending on who is writing him, Zeus is typically powered by being worshiped directly or indirectly. He’s got the typical weather control and manipulation, sure, but he’s also been seen resurrecting the dead, shapeshifting and creating new life entirely.

9 Darkseid

Darkseid: The Superman-beating, Batman-killing(kinda), anti-life-equation-seeking god of Apokolips. Had the DCEU managed to get to the point that the MCU had with the Avengers, Darkseid likely would’ve been their Thanos.

Darkseid is incredibly strong (as proven by the time he broke a lantern ring with his bare hands), exceptionally intelligent, and with the power of the Omega Beams that blast out of his piercing eyes, he’s also incredibly dangerous. He may be one of the most powerful and violent members of the new gods, but he’s certainly not the toughest god in the DC universe.

8 Metron

He may not be the most physically capable of the New Gods, but what Metron lacks in brawn he more than makes up for in being a super-genius master of time, space, and alternate dimensions.

With his Mobius Chair, Metron can show up at any time or place and his superhuman brain allows him to maintain a godly amount of knowledge about what it, what was, what will be, and so much more than that. In fact, the Mobius chair is so powerful, along with the fact that it carries all of Metron’s accumulated knowledge, it can also grant anyone near omnipotence.

7 Trigon

Fans of the Teen Titans may be familiar with this demonic ruler of the under realms. Trigon is rarely shown anywhere near full-power, but even without being at full-power he is easily able to take out the Teen Titans as well as the Justice League.

While she often makes herself seem unimposing, Raven is the daughter of one of the most powerful gods in the DC landscape. Power, that her father is sure she will one day exceed. He may not win any father of the year awards, but fans would be hard-pressed to find even a handful of beings that could go toe-to-toe with Trigon.

6 Highfather

Highfather and Darkseid

Much like Darkseid, Highfather is one of the strongest members of the New Gods. He is able to wield the power of the source itself, can regularly fight Darkseid, and he even manages to live to tell about it.

While Highfather is immortal, he generally appears to be somewhere in his late-thirties. Although he is strong enough to continually fight Darkseid, he was not strong enough to defeat him and his forces on Apokolips. After trading sons in a deal to broker peace, however, Highfather was able to end the war with Apokolips. Temporarily.

5 Morpheus

Morpheus as Dream of the Endless from The Sandman

Technically immortal, the God of Dreams, as created by Neil Gaiman, can pretty much exist whenever and where ever he chooses. He is as real or surreal as he wishes to be. Gods like Darkseid pose a universal threat, to be sure, but Morpheus existed in any dimension in which there are dreams.

Morpheus may not be the most forgiving of gods, but with the kind of overwhelming power that he wields, he doesn’t really need to be. The God of Dreams may sound terrifying, but fortunately for the heroes of the DC universe, he’s generally on their side.

4 Bruce Wayne: The Merciless

Batman wears the helm of Ares as Batman the Merciless

Ares, Kratos, both honorable contenders for the title of the baddest god of war on this side of Olympus. However, both of those guys are B-listers compared to this version of the God of War.

Bruce Wayne already caused enough trouble when he was just a rich dude dressing up as a bat, but before the events of Dark Nights: Metal, this version of Brucie not only managed to take down Ares the God of War. He did so with the help of Wonder Woman, who he quickly dispatched afterwards. Granted, he had been driven power-mad by Ares' helmet, but much like Kratos (oddly enough), Bruce took the life of the woman he loved while under Ares’ influence.

3 Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman Godkiller

Superman may seem like a god to normal people, but an actual god he is not. That role goes to Princess Diana, who is better known as Wonder Woman. Diana, much like her father Zeus, has been around for a long time and has been a warrior for nearly as long.

She can run as fast as some speedsters. She has feats of strengths to match the best of them. She’s even taken the full brunt of Zeus’ wrath and walked out the other side completely unscathed. Superman may be a lot of things, but when it comes to Wonder Woman and gods like her, he just can’t measure up.

2 Lucifer Morningstar

The Presence, DC Comics' version of God, is an all-powerful, omnipotent, unstoppable force of the universe. Something that resides in all things. And naturally, Lucifer Morningstar is meant to be in opposition to that unstoppable force.

While Lucifer is a multiversal entity that can do just about anything, the one thing that he cannot do is create something out of nothing. Which can be a bit of a weakness when fighting against his creator and brother, The Presence. Lucifer is, however, typically spared the wrath of The Presence and his angelic forces due to the fact that even among archangels, he is significantly more powerful.

1 The Presence

The Presence from DC Comics

The Presence is pretty much the end all be all when it comes to DC Comics. The Presence is simply capable of anything it wished to accomplish. Resurrections, granting powers to various people and angels, along with being impossible to destroy make The Presence the god to beat when it comes to power in DC Comics.

The Presence is the god that all other gods answer to or empowered by. Though The Presence seldom makes actual appearances in the comics, they're alluded to or mentioned more often than not.
