DC's heroes are known for being shining beacons of heroism, but not all of them are the friendliest. Crimefighting is hard, and many heroes have faced situations that make it difficult for them to be open and vulnerable with others. Sometimes this bleeds over into their personal lives, causing them to withdraw from friends and loved ones.

Despite the fact these heroes get the job done when it comes to fighting evil, their unfriendly and cold exteriors aren't going to win them any popularity contests with the general public or with their fellow heroes.

9 Huntress Was Hardcore Even For The Bat-Family

Batman Family Quiz Huntress

Huntress started life as Helena Bertinelli, the daughter of a mobster who lost her family in a gangland hit. This drove her to seek revenge, and get the training she needed, becoming Huntress. Even among the rather brutal vigilantes of Gotham, the Huntress was known for her violence, so much so that even Batman found her hard to deal with.

Huntress's upbringing as a daughter of a mobster and the events that took her family away from her made her a difficult person to be around. She eventually made friends with other heroes, but her disposition and the extremity of her actions make it challenging for most to get close to her.

8 Lobo Is Known For His Terrible Disposition

LexLuthor5SupermanVillainswins5losesLobo

Calling Lobo a hero can be a bit of a stretch. He's known as the Last Czarnian for a reason: he killed every other member of his race. He's the most feared bounty hunter in the universe and is just as liable to punch Superman in the face as work with him. Lobo has had a short stint in the Justice League of America, however, and has helped save the day more often than not.

Lobo is a hard drinking, hard living mercenary of the highest order. He's gruff and arrogant, having little time for the niceties of society. The only beings in the universe he's nice to are the space dolphins. Everyone else can rot for all he cares.

7 Black Adam's Known More For Being A Villain Than Anything Else

Black Adam Writer Discusses His 'Pure Villainy' in Electrifying Trailer

Black Adam has taken a twisting path over the years. Starting out as the hero Mighty Adam in Ancient Egypt, he'd return in the present day under the control of an evil descendant, before reasserting control. He'd try his hand at being a hero with the Justice Society, but his violent nature would drive him back to villainy. Since then, he reformed again and joined the Justice League.

Black Adam's never been the friendliest person in the world, even during times as a hero. During his latest stint — which is more wholehearted than the previous one — Black Adam acts haughty among his teammates. His power is useful, but he's not easy to get along with.

6 Hawkman Likes To Hit Things More Than Talk To People

Hawkman flying on a blank background in DC Comics.

Hawkman led the Justice Society in its early years, his millennia of experience in battle and melee weapons making him the most violent member of the group. He would go on to join the Justice League, becoming one of the most unlikable heroes in the team's history.

Hawkman made friends with the Atom on the Justice League, but that was about it. Despite being useful to the team, he clashed with some members, including Green Arrow. Hawkman liked letting his mace do the talking and didn't care very much about being liked.

5 Guy Gardner Is The Black Sheep Of The Green Lantern Corps

Guy Gardner/Green Lantern in DC Comics

The Green Lantern Corps is full of all kinds of officers. Some are brave and true while others are more roguish. Guy Gardner fits into the latter category, although calling him roguish is an understatement. Gardner has been in some heavy scrapes and survived every single one of them, but his attitude has made him difficult to work with.

The Green Lantern has mellowed a bit in older age, but Gardner is still the black sheep of the Corps and the superhero community of Earth. Despite being known to mouth off, drop insults, and start fights, he's still one of the best Green Lanterns in the universe.

4 Red Hood's Anger Is Well Earned

Red Hood with the Outlaws in the New 52

Jason Todd's death at the hands of the Joker was a terrible event. The boy's eventual resurrection saw him angrier than ever, clashing with his mentor Batman — who never sought revenge for Jason's death. Jason eventually saw the error of his ways, joined the ranks of reformed villains, and returned to the Bat-Family.

Red Hood's anger made him a real challenge for other members of the Bat-Family who wanted to get along with him. Jason had never been the easiest person to work with before, and the trauma of his death and resurrection didn't help matters, exacerbating his already angry nature.

3 Damian Wayne Takes After Both Of His Parents

Damian Wayne Finally Embraces Batman's Biggest Rule - On His Own Terms

Damian Wayne is the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul. His mother raised him to be an heir to the al Ghul family, teaching him he was better than everyone else because of his lineage. This sense of superiority became a huge part of Damian's identity, influencing his time as a superhero. It paid off to an extent, as Damian continually proved to be an amazing Robin.

However, this attitude made Damian hard to deal with. He got along with Dick Grayson — who took Damian on as his Robin and did his best to let the boy live a normal life — and Jon Kent, his best friend. Other than that, most heroes found Damian insufferable.

The Question Deaths of Vic Sage feature #1 cropped

The Question made a name for himself as a top-notch detective, one of the best on the planet. He battled the worst that Hub City had to offer, tackling all manner of criminals with his mind and his fists. The Question also helped other heroes with their cases, however, they rarely ended well.

Determined on the task at hand, the Question doesn't really care what others think about him. He's a tough as nails fighter with a keen mind and little interest in making friends. To him, the only thing that matters are the cases and figuring out the secrets of the world around him.

1 Batman Is Focused On The Mission First And Foremost

Batman: Fortress' Aliens in DC Comics

Batman is DC's greatest vigilante, he's driven by his mission like few others. That drive makes it difficult for Batman to be friendly. While he has friends, it's more in spite of himself than because of anything he's done. The people in Batman's life are there because they choose to be, and he doesn't make it easy for them.

Batman does love his friends, he just doesn't know how to deal with them or his emotions. Despite being a difficult person, but he's still magnetic in a strange way. However, he's put everyone around him through something terrible, whether by his callousness or choices.
