Internet personality Greg Miller -- host of the Rooster Teeth-affiliated YouTube channel Kinda Funny -- and screenwriter Gary Whitta -- who co-developed 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story -- have been added to the all-star roster of creators featured as part of DC Comics' upcoming Joker 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular.
"I've called myself a [DC Comics] fanboy my entire life," Miller wrote on Twitter. "Thanks to [Gary Whitta], I'll soon get to call myself a published DC Comics writer." Miller's tweet links to a video on the Kinda Funny YouTube channel, in which he and Whitta discuss their involvement in The Joker 80th Anniversary 100-page Super Spectacular -- which was originally slated for release in April, but was delayed as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The Clown Prince of Crime's anniversary issue will now arrive on June 9.
Miller and Whitta co-wrote the story "Kill the Batman," on which they are joined by artist Dan Mora. Mora is primarily known for his cover work, having even created covers for DC Comics' gen:LOCK, which is based on the Rooster Teeth animated series of the same name. "Kill the Batman" takes place in a "not-so-distant future" where the Joker has achieved his goal and, well, killed the Batman. However, this victory does not bring the villain the satisfaction he hoped it would. In turn, he sets his sights on an encore, of sorts, targeting the Dark Knight's memorial ceremony. Miller came up in the gaming sphere, joining IGN as an editor in 2007 and starting his YouTube channel GameOverGreggy in 2012. In 2015, Miller and fellow editors Nick Scarpino, Tim Gettys and Colin Moriarty departed IGN to form Kinda Funny, with Miller's YouTube channel being rebranded as such. In 2016, Kinda Funny formed a partnership with Rooster Teeth, joining the Let's Play family, which has also featured such channels and creators as Funhaus, ScrewAttack, Cow Chop and Sugar Pine 7, among others. Meanwhile, in addition to his own work in film, magazine journalism and game development, Whitta has ventured into the world of comics before. He previously wrote a short series of comics based on the video game character Death Jr. and currently writes the Image Comics series OLIVER alongside artist Darick Robertson.
