There are plenty of mercenaries within the DC Universe, but only a handful have ever risen to become noteworthy. These mercenaries are some of the toughest, most skilled fighters in the DC Universe. Most of them can give Batman a run for his money in a fight, and all of them have developed a reputation across the world for their skills.

10 Roy Harper Ran A Mercenary Group Known As The Iron Rule

Compared to the other sidekicks, Roy has always had a bit more morally gray outlook on life and what it means to help others. Before his time as Red Hood with the Outlaws, Roy was responsible for forming a mercenary group known as The Iron Rule. Roy intended to use the group to overthrow the dictator of Qurac.

Thanks to Roy's training under Oliver Queen and his time operating as a hero, he had the skills that got the other members of the group to respect him as a leader. In The Iron Rule, Roy takes on many jobs and actually creates a successful group of mercenaries. Roy's biggest problem as leader of The Iron Rule was he wasn't solely about the money, and when his team attacked a town that didn't want their help, he turned on them and wiped part of the team out.

9 Scandal Savage Was A Key Member Of The Mercenary Group Secret Six

Daughter of Vandal Savage, Scandal has made a name for herself as a member of the mercenary group the Secret Six. She's repeatedly shown the ability to get the job done, no matter what other mercs or even supervillains are standing in her way.

While Scandal lacks Vandal Savage's immortality, she can still shrug off most injuries. This allows her to deal with threats that might be more deadly or skilled than her, as she can take hits most mercenaries in the DC Universe can't. Her durability and fighting skills have allowed her to deal with everyone from Talia Al Ghul to the Suicide Squad when necessary.

8 Eddie Fyers Has Worked Both With & Against Green Arrow

Eddie Fyers might be the most "normal" mercenary in the DC Universe that still maintains a high level of competence. Like any good mercenary, his relationship with the superhero community shifts depending on the situation.

While Eddie started out as an enemy of Green Arrow, the two were forced to work together so many times that they became tenuous allies. Fyers even helped look after Connor Hawke when he first entered the superhero community. Despite being a talented marksman and martial artist, he's not in the same league as other, more dangerous mercenaries.

7 Henri Ducard Helped Train Batman

Henri Ducard got his start as a member of Interpol, renowned for his abilities as a manhunter. His skills were so impressive that even Bruce Wayne sought him out, seeking to master those same traits to track down enemies. here However, while Batman refuses to kill, Ducard has no such code holding him back.

During the time Henri's been featured in the comics, he's come in contact with several other skilled mercenaries. He's taken down assassins on his own side and even trained his son in the art of both manhunting and assassinations, resulting in the dangerous supervillain Nobody. What holds Ducard back is that, compared to other mercenaries, he hasn't been featured nearly as much.

6 Cole Cash Has Spent Several Years Operating As A Mercenary Fighting Terrorists

One of the implants from the WildStorm universe, Cole Cash, has been part of the DC Universe since the beginning of the New 52. Regardless of the continuity, his combat skills have been so impressive that they landed him a spot in Team 7, a top-tier, black-ops military organization.

Most recently, within the DC Universe continuity, Cole's proven himself capable of fighting against terrorist organizations like Leviathan. He's also proven he can beat Red Hood in a fight and even outsmart both Batman and Nightwing. Despite his habit of getting himself in over his head, he's much more competent than he lets on.

5 Floyd Lawton Is The Best Marksman On The Planet

Floyd Lawton is widely known as the best marksman on the planet, with a reputation for never having missed a shot. Though that reputation isn't entirely true, Floyd's training under David Cain has turned him into one of the most formidable mercenaries in the DC Universe. Floyd's talents aren't just limited to what he can do with a gun.

Floyd's shown the same talent with multiple forms of weapons, only preferring guns because they're the most efficient. He does have a bit of a conscience compared to other mercenaries and will do anything to protect his daughter, which has led to him working for the Suicide Squad on several occasions.

4 Chesire Remains Focused On Her Missions Above Everything Else

Chesire's reputation as a deadly assassin within the DC Universe cannot be understated. She spent her youth learning how to fight from guerilla fighters and assassins alike and turned that into her primary method of making money. Because of her mastery of poison, she's gotten victories over more talented fighters like Lady Shiva.

However, unlike other martial arts masters, Jade doesn't seem to care about the thrill of the fight. She cares far more about accomplishing her mission and being paid for it as a true mercenary would. Her methods have allowed her to stay one step ahead of both heroes and fellow mercenaries alike.

3 David Cain Trained Cassandra Cain In Becoming The Best Fighter In The DCU

David Cain is one of the most deadly assassins on the planet, boasting mastery in both hand-to-hand and weapons-based combat. A member of the League of Assassins, David's proven his skills by working for them and training some of the deadliest fighters in the world.

David helped train Batman and Deadshot and is the main reason why Cassandra Cain is one of Bruce's most powerful kids in the DC Universe. While he's helped train, it doesn't mean all of them learned to surpass him. Deadshot was paid to kill him once, and Cain was still able to defeat him and escape from Batman at the same time.

2 Lady Shiva Helped Batman Relearn His Skills After His Loss To Bane

Sandra Woo-san is the kind of threat that even the heroes tend to leave alone because she's just too much work to deal with. Widely considered one of the greatest martial artists to have ever lived, she's fought against and alongside everyone from Batman to the Question at different points in her history. She even helped re-train Batman after he lost to Bane, helping him to rediscover the edge he needed in battle.

Sandra's skills as a mercenary have taken her around the world, putting her in organizations like the League of Assassins and the Secret Society. Still, ultimately, she's proven her skills belong to no one other than herself. Her main weakness is her overconfidence and her desire to constantly find "challenges" for her skill that leave her open to bad mistakes.

1 Slade Wilson Has Defeated The Justice League In The Past

Slade Wilson is the ultimate mercenary. Since his time in the military, gaining both training and enhanced special abilities, he's worked for various organizations. He spent time with the League of Assassins, took missions from HIVE, and even been part of the Titans on at least one occasion.

Slade's skills have allowed him to take on the Justice League and take down multiple members at the same time. Sure, they were a team with little prior training together, but his success at all speaks to his abilities. Only a handful of DC heroes have ever been able to prove they can fight at his level, let alone other people in the world of mercenaries. Everyone generally knows to steer clear if they want to stay alive.
