DC Comics has made some incredibly powerful and iconic characters like The Flash who have left a lasting impact on the world of superheroes. While several people have filled the role, Barry Allen is the most notable person to call himself the fastest man alive. He has appeared in plenty of comic books and has made his way into both films and television adaptations.

The Flash is certainly one of the strongest heroes in the DC roster, but how would he hold up against Marvel's list of heroes? There are plenty of heroes the Flash could go toe to toe with, but who would give him the toughest fight?

Updated on April 29, 2022 by Scoot Allan: The long-awaited live-action adaptation of The Flash explores DC's entire multiverse of movies thanks to the incredible speed of Barry Allen. Since he's able to move through time and across the multiverse thanks to his incredible speed, it's entirely possible he could break through dimensions into the Marvel Universe. He would face new threats and challenges as well as race against new speedsters who might make him prove his claim to the title of the fastest man alive.

15 He Would Lose: Scarlet Witch's Magical Hex Bolts Would Trip Up The Flash

Scarlet Witch uses her reality-altering abilities.

Wanda Maximoff has the potential to be one of the most dangerous members of the Avengers due to her enhanced magical abilities. Scarlet Witch is connected to powerful chaos magic which has reality-altering abilities she has used to both help and devastate her teammates over the years.

Of course, one of the Scarlet Witch's greatest advantages when facing off against a character like The Flash is the fact her twin brother and one of her sons are speedsters. She's fought and trained with speedsters for a good part of her life. She knows how to predict their movement which would allow her to strike with a devastating magical hex bolt, changing Flash's reality.

14 He Would Defeat: Quicksilver Isn't Quite Fast Enough To Catch Up To The Flash

Quicksilver from Marvel Comics.

Scarlet Witch's twin brother is Pietro Maximoff, a speedster who is better known as Quicksilver. He used his incredible speed wot work alongside teams like X-Factor and the Avengers after a dark turn with Magneto's first Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

While Quicksilver is definitely one of the fastest speedsters in the Marvel universe, fans have already seen how his speed stacks up to The Flash. In Marvel vs. DC, the speedsters were paired against each other by cosmic entities, and The Flash ended up taking the win. The Flash has displayed much higher levels of speed, allowing him to do more with his powers than Quicksilver as well.

13 He Would Lose: Blue Marvel's Cosmic Awareness Keeps Him One Step Ahead

Blue Marvel from Marvel Comics

Dr. Adam Brashear gained a number of incredible powers after he was exposed to antimatter radiation from his experimental reactor. He became a hero named Blue Marvel before he was semi-retired and headed underground to focus on his research. Blue Marvel is capable of flying at supersonic speeds to keep up with The Flash, but his other powers give Brashear an edge.

While his ability to absorb energy and manipulate antimatter in various forms that include powerful energy blasts, it's Blue Marvel's enhanced mental perception that gives him a unique cosmic awareness. This potentially gives him some advanced knowledge of The Flash's attacks beforehand, making it even easier to overpower the Scarlet Speedster.

12 He Would Defeat: Flash Has Dealt With Quasar's Energy Constructs In His Own Universe

Wendell Vaughn as Quasar

Wendell Vaughn's role as Quasar came with powerful Quantum Bands he used to teleport across the galaxy in seconds, allowing him to outrun most speedsters. He could also use quantum energy to create powerful energy constructs which he wielded as Marvel's Protector of the Universe.

While Quasar's Quantum Bands may prove to be too much for most of his foes, The Flash has dealt with powerful cosmic weapons in his own universe. One of Barry Allen's best friends is Hal Jordan. Flash has trained and fought alongside the Green Lantern for years, giving The Flash an edge against Quasar.

11 He Would Lose: Thor Wields A Powerful Enchanted Hammer As The God of Thunder

Thor

Barry Allen's abilities allow him to move so fast he can dodge bullets, hand-to-hand attacks, and even run up walls to escape. However, all of his abilities wouldn't be able to hold up against the god of thunder.

Thor has nearly unlimited potential power that he doesn't often get to use to its fullest extent. He can travel through space unharmed and can summon powerful bolts of lightning with his indestructible enchanted hammer. The Flash may be able to escape harm for a bit, but in the end, Thor would be too strong for the Flash to withstand.

10 He Would Defeat: Cyclops's Powerful Optic Blast Wouldn't Find Its Target With The Flash

Cyclops

Scott Summers has proven himself to be an important asset to the X-Men and more than capable of leading a team of heroes into battle. However, in a head-to-head fight, Cyclops would struggle to keep pace with the Flash.

Cyclops has some powerful abilities, but the Flash can move faster than anything Summers could throw at him. While Cyclops has a unique understanding of spatial trajectories and he could use his unpredictable optic blast to create obstacles for the Flash, there are too many other ways for The Flash to take out the leader of the X-Men.

9 He Would Lose: Captain Marvel Is A Powerful Avenger With Super-Speed And Cosmic Blasts

Captain Marvel

Carol Danvers is one of the strongest heroes in the Marvel universe, and she works alongside one of the most powerful rosters of the Avengers. She can easily travel through space and is nearly indestructible, plus she can absorb and redirect energy and move faster than the speed of sound.

The Flash can hit pretty hard with his incredible speed, but his strength is nowhere near the level of Captain Marvel. In addition to her ability to fly and resilience, Captain Marvel's powerful energy blasts could trip up The Flash. Allen's speed wouldn't be enough to save him in a fight against Captain Marvel, whose own enhanced speed gives her an edge above Flash's usual competition.

8 He Would Defeat: Daredevil Just Isn't Fast Enough To Make Use Of His Enhanced Senses And Fighting Skills

Daredevil from Marvel Comics

Daredevil is certainly one of the most tenacious heroes with some of the best Marvel Comics storylines. Despite not having a long list of abilities, Daredevil makes up for it with his toughness and his lack of fear. He also has a powerfully detailed radar and enhanced senses he gained after exposure to toxic radiation left him blind as a child.

Matt Murdock's senses may be able to help him dodge a few attacks from the Flash, but it's unlikely he could withstand a direct hit (or a hundred in one second). Daredevil is a great close combat fighter, but the Flash is able to punch just as fast as he can run. There's no way Daredevil would be able to attack the Flash fast enough to do any damage.

7 He Would Lose: Jean Grey Would Take Him Out At The Speed Of Thought As Marvel's Strongest Telepath

Jean Grey using her telepathy

There aren't many mutants who have truly earned the Omega level status, but Jean Grey has easily proven herself to be at this level of power. There have been multiple X-Men films that have tried to show the true level of power she can reach. However, many comic stories have effectively showcased Jean Grey's Omega-level mutant abilities.

The Flash would be rendered powerless due to Jean Grey's enhanced telepathy. She would be able to read his thoughts, predict his next attack, and mentally convince him to remain still — or just shut off his brain. She could also use her powerful telekinesis to hold him off the ground, so he can't run and deliver a knockout punch. If she had the Phoenix Force on her side, it wouldn't even be close.

6 He Would Defeat: Black Panther's Advanced Suit And Enhanced Skills Aren't Quick Enough To Deal With Flash's Speed

Black Panther

The king of Wakanda is an incredible fighter and his suit really gives him an edge in most battles. However, Black Panther wouldn't have quick enough reflexes to anticipate the Flash's next attack. The Flash would overwhelm the Avenger with his nonstop attacks.

The Flash has proven fast enough to create tornadoes and has even time-traveled. This level of speed would be too much to handle, even with Black Panther's best weapons and advanced technology. T'Challa's suit makes him very tough to beat, but the Flash would eventually be able to catch Black Panther off guard.

5 He Would Lose: Silver Surfer Soars Across The Cosmos At Incredible Speed While Also Wielding The Power Cosmic

Silver Surfer

As the former herald of Galactus, the Silver Surfer travels across the galaxy and wields planet-destroying abilities. His entire anatomy and surfboard are indestructible, and he could go toe to toe with almost any comic hero. The Flash would use his abilities to avoid almost all the Surfer's attacks, but in the end, it wouldn't be enough.

One of Silver Surfer's unique abilities is that he can trap people inside his surfboard and take them wherever he wants. The Silver Surfer could choose to imprison the Flash in his board indefinitely as he traveled throughout the galaxy. While The Flash could cause him some trouble, Silver Surfer's speed and his Power Cosmic might prove to be too much for the Scarlet Speedster.

4 He Would Defeat: Captain America's Shield Wouldn't Be Able To Block A Hundred Super-Speed Punches From The Flash

Captain America

The Flash is powered by the Speed Force, giving him incredible amounts of power that allow him to travel through time and across the multiverse. Like Cyclops, Steve Rogers is one of the best tactical leaders. He always gets back up when he is beat, and he is the first one to charge into any fight.

However, Captain America's bravery would only get him so far in a fight against the Flash. Barry Allen would be able to hit Captain America a dozen times before Cap could get a single hit. The Avenger could possibly use his shield to defend himself, but it wouldn't be enough to stop the fastest man alive.

3 He Would Lose: Doctor Strange Has A Well Developed Arsenal Of Magical Tools That Would Stop The Flash

Doctor Strange

The Sorcerer Supreme is possibly one of the most underrated heroes in Marvel Comics. Doctor Strange is a Master of the Mystic Arts who wields a number of powerful spells and artifacts, making him a dangerous threat. Beating the Flash as simple as Doctor Strange moving the battlefield to another dimension or changing into one of his more powerful forms.

Doctor Strange could create portals in The Flash's path or create magic barriers as hurdles to stop incoming attacks. Although the fight would be close, Doctor Strange has more weapons to choose from, giving him an edge in the battle.

2 He Would Defeat: Spider-Man's Strength And Spider-Sense Makes It An Extremely Close Matchup

Spider-Man

Peter Parker and Barry Allen are both quick and difficult to predict, which would make a showdown between them an extremely close matchup. Spider-Man has an enhanced Spider-Sense and superior strength and agility, so he could potentially counter many of Barry Allen's attacks.

It would be interesting to see if some of Spider-Man's inventions like his web-shooters would be able to tie up the Flash in time to knock him out. However, The Flash would likely be able to vibrate out of any trap and deliver heavy enough attacks to defeat the web-slinger.

1 Draw: Buried Alien/Fast Forward Could Very Well Be Both Marvel And DC's Fastest Man Alive

Marvel's Buried Alien as Fastforward split image

Marvel has a number of speedsters who have occasionally competed against each other. However, a race was held on a galactic scale in the pages of Quasar to determine who was Marvel's fastest man alive. The race featured an amnesiac man from another universe in a torn red and yellow costume who called himself "Buried Alien."

He later took the name FastForward and won the race, claiming the title of Marvel's fastest man alive. A fight between Fast Forward and The Flash would end in a draw because it's very likely they are actually the same person. Fast Forward arrived in the Marvel Universe after he saved his world from a "crisis." He hasn't been seen since Barry Allen returned to the DC Universe.
