Among a group that all seem to refer to themselves as the Fastest Person Alive, who’s the fastest? That’s a question that’s hard not to want an answer to, when fans look at all of the members of the Flash Family. There are more popping up all the time, each tapped into the mysterious Speed Force, a source of energy that surrounds the universe itself.

Though the energy itself is limitless, the ability for each Flash to tap into it isn’t. So which of them are the most skilled? Who’s got the best mastery over the Speed force, and who’s the most capable of the family?

10 IRIS WEST

The youngest member of the Flash Family, she’s got no real feats worth talking about because she’s never received the focus that anyone else has. We’ve seen her fight alongside her dad a couple of times, but all we know is that she has some skill with the Speed Force. At one point it was believed it had chosen her over her brother Jai, but when we last saw them both had powers. What we do know is that with her lack of experience and infrequent use, she can’t be any higher than last place.

9 AVERY HO

Avery was introduced with Rebirth as one of a number of people who gained Speed Force powers in the Speed Force storm. She retained her powers and eventually traveled to China, where she would become their Flash. We don’t know everything she can do, but considering Barry recently took her under his wing to work with her, there’s a good chance she’s fairly quick. Her best feat is beating the Superman of China in a race, which makes sense, because why would he be able to beat her at her “one thing”.

8 WALLY WEST II

Damian Wayne VS Kid Flash entry

The younger Wally got his powers when his older self from the future traveled back in time and gave them to him. They stabilized during the Speed Force storm, and since then he’s been involved in tons of different storylines.

What we know for sure is he can’t compete with the upper level speedsters, but that doesn’t mean he’s slow by any means—he’s more than fast enough to catch bullets out of the air.

7 JESSE QUICK

Jesse Quick

We never really get to see Jesse Quick these days, but she’s a pretty talented speedster. Initially, her connection to speed was through the special mathematical equation, 3X2(9YZ)4A. But eventually, she learned how to tap into the Speed Force, which gave her even greater speed. She can hit half of light speed, which probably makes her a good deal faster than some speedsters, while also making her embarrassingly slow compared to some of the people who’ve had these powers longer.

6 JAY GARRICK

Jay Garrick Flash

Jay Garrick is the original Flash, and as such he comes with some fairly curious limits to his abilities. He didn’t originally have access to the Speed Force, because there wasn’t such a thing when he was introduced. His top speed was basically the Speed of Sound. It wasn’t until he began working with the next Flash that he began to start moving faster, as he began tapping into the Speed Force. He can move at twenty times the Speed of Sound, and even go up to light-speed briefly.

5 XS

Jenni Ognats is the grand-daughter of the original Flash. Her parents were the Tornado Twins, a pair of superheroes who took Jenni into the far future to protect her. What we know about her abilities is that she can operate at near light speeds, because she was written during a time where moving any faster than that would get a person pulled into the Speed Force. Because of that, fans have never seen her go faster, but her experience as a speedster and overall ability combined place her within the Top 4.

4 MAX MERCURY

Max is basically Jay Garrick but with the Speed Force. While Jay gained super-speed without any help, Max Mercury gained the Speed Force powers ages ago.

He’s had decades to master these powers, gradually learning things that most of the other people on this list could never dream of. His top speed is certainly lower than the people higher up on this list, but that doesn’t mean he can’t teach them a thing or two.

3 BART ALLEN

Impulse Bart Allen

Born in the 30th century, Bart Allen has such a connection to the Speed Force that his whole body was hyper-aging for a time. He had to be taught how to use his speed, and eventually learned to become a hero. As Kid Flash, it was explained that he had the ability to retain whatever he learned from speed reading, seemingly as a result of him growing up in a VR environment that could keep up with his speed and teach him. When he was the Flash, he was able to move at the speed of light.

2 BARRY ALLEN

The Flash Barry Allen

Thanks to one of the more... curious retcons, Barry doesn’t just use the Speed Force... the accident that created him essentially invented it. His movements alone create the energy for the Speed Force. The Speed of Light is nothing for him, and we’ve seen him leave everyone from Superman to his speed-empowered enemies in the dust. He’s got the ability to perceive time faster than everyone else, allowing him to make conscious decisions faster than anyone around him, something few other speedsters have ever displayed.

1 WALLY WEST

Wally West. The Flash. The Fastest Man Alive.

Wally West is the greatest user of the Speed Force of all time. We’ve seen him do things that literally don’t make sense. He’s talked about measurements of time in the form of picoseconds. He’s reassembled buildings and helped entire cities outrun bombs. There’s no limit to what he can do with the Speed Force, and he’s learned countless abilities he’s actually taught to the rest of the Flash family.
