Batman is one of the greatest heroes in the DC Multiverse. On a terrible night, Bruce Wayne watched his parents die, closed his eyes, and Batman opened them. While it would be years before he put on the cowl, he built himself into something that could take on any threat, a cunning detective and skilled fighter ready for the worst that Gotham could throw at him.

Over the years, Batman has done some pretty amazing things as a hero. While he doesn't have powers, he's managed to do things that other heroes have only dreamed of, creating something special as Batman.

10 He's Foiled The Joker Again & Again

DC Batman Beats Joker Hush

The Joker and Batman are locked in an eternal battle; Batman is inextricably linked to the Joker's creation so he's partly responsible for the terrors the Joker's caused. The Joker's been trying to destroy Gotham for years, injecting his unique blend of chaos into things whenever he has a chance. The Joker isn't just a mad dog; his plans are just as cunning as Batman's.

Batman has worked hard to keep the Joker's attacks to a minimum amount of damage and has stopped him from even worse acts many times over the years. The Joker is no slouch and the fact that Batman has stayed ahead of him at all is an accomplishment.

9 He's Stopped Ra's al Ghul

Ra's al Ghul has been a constant thorn in Batman's side. In a lot of ways, the two men represent two sides of the same coin; they are both intelligent, skilled, and wealthy men who are trying to change the world in their own ways. Luckily for the world, Batman has stood between the world and Ra's, stopping his schemes on more than one occasion.

Ra's al Ghul has often proved to be Batman's superior in ways that few other foes are, yet Batman has always won every fight, no matter how close things have gotten. This speaks to just how good Batman is when the chips are down.

8 He Took Back Gotham From Bane

Bane during the City of Bane storyline in DC Comics

Bane is one of Batman's greatest foes and he was able to outsmart Batman, taking over Gotham City. Bane did something few have ever done to Batman before, taking his city away from him and outthinking him at every turn. The fact that Batman was ever able to come back from what Bane did to him and beat him is amazing.

While it wasn't exactly a flawless victory, as Alfred was killed before Batman could take back the city, he came back from a massive defeat and overcame the odds Bane stacked against him, showing just why he's such a great hero.

7 He's Beaten Superman

Batman vs. Superman

Batman and Superman have long been the best of friends but with superheroes, that means they've also fought a lot of times. One of the most impressive things about Batman is that he's been able to beat Superman, which isn't something a lot of people can say. Sure, he uses his tricks against Superman but the fact that they work says something about Batman.

Superman is one of the most dangerous beings in the DC Universe and just having a Kryptonite ring or a plan doesn't mean he's suddenly easy to beat. Batman has been able to make it happen against Superman, which is no easy task.

6 He's Beaten Darkseid

Darkseid is one of the greatest forces of evil in the DC Multiverse. Few beings out there can match his power or his depravity; whenever he attacks, it's an all-hands-on-deck moment. Batman and Darkseid have tangled several times and somehow, Batman has always beaten the God of Evil.

Batman is smart enough to know he can't beat Darkseid in a straight-up fight, even with the powerful Hellbat armor. Instead, he uses what he knows to beat Darkseid, using his brains and all of his resources to win. He's even walked into Apokolips and walked out alive again, which isn't exactly something that happens a lot.

5 He Trained Tim Drake

Batman and Robin Tim Drake

Batman has won a lot of battles but those aren't really the greatest things he's done. Some of Batman's greatest accomplishments have been the people whose lives he touched, Tim Drake is one of those people. It would be easy to make the argument that Tim Drake is the greatest Robin; he was halfway there even when he began his training.

While he had a lot to work with when he started training Tim, Batman's instruction took Tim to the next level. Few can deny just how great of a hero Tim is and it's all because of the things Batman taught him, allowing him to persevere in any circumstance.

4 He Created Anti-Justice League Plans That Work

Batman is a pragmatic person. He knows that bad things happen. Even the greatest heroes can find themselves in situations where they're not in control of their actions or have switched sides completely. For this reason, Batman created plans to take down the Justice League. While that's not exactly the nicest thing to do, it shows wisdom.

While it's come back to bite the team, these plans are quite necessary. If someone like the Flash went bad, he could kill millions of people in minutes. Batman's plans are the only thing that could stop that sort of attack.

3 He's Survived At The Highest Levels Of The Heroic Community

Take away all of the money and the tricks and Batman is just a really good fighter in great shape. Somehow, he's survived battles against some of the most dangerous beings in creation, helping to defeat monsters, dark gods, and the most powerful villains around. There have been situations where he's been completely defeated, yet he came back to get the win.

Batman is one of the top heroes for a reason; he can survive anything and even if dropped in a situation where he has nothing, he can still figure out a way to win. The fact he's survived so many battles with the Justice League says a lot about him.

2 He's Helped Make Dick Grayson Into A Better Person Than He'll Ever Be

Batman and Nightwing

Dick Grayson has grown far beyond his mentor. The two were peas in a pod, both having lost their parents at a young age, but they grew in different ways. Dick never let the tragedy of his life define and took what Batman taught him and used it to make himself better. He's grown in ways that Batman hasn't and that makes Bruce prouder than anyone can imagine.

Batman completely understands what he did with Dick. He gave him a second chance in life, molding him into a person and a hero that is beloved by all who know him. His student grew beyond him and it says a lot about his abilities as a mentor.

1 He Built His Own Family

The Bat-Family on the rooftops

Taking in Dick Grayson was just the beginning for Batman, as he began to bring people into his orbit to create something he thought he had lost, a family. Over the years, Batman has reached out to more broken young people, giving them purpose, and they've given him something in return. The Bat-family is more than a team, they're a group of people united by their love of each other and justice.

They're also one of the most formidable hero units ever. Batman made a family for himself that not only shared his ideals but one that would always support each other and grow. They're a family, first and foremost.
