Despite his long existence (Aquaman first appeared in comics in November 1941), Aquaman never quite made it into the A-league. He's an important member of the Justice League and a powerful superhero but other heroes are more respected and beloved by DC fans and superhero fans in general than him - for example, the DC Trinity: Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

His enemies and sometimes even his friends often underestimate Aquaman but he has a lot of useful powers that help him stop those who might hurt him or other people. While some are obvious, many might not be that familiar to fans...

10 Super-Sight

Aquaman

Aquaman has enhanced sight both underwater and on land. His ability to see even in the murky waters of the ocean helps him to protect his people, the Atlantean nation. Aquaman himself has claimed that his eyes are adapted to see all the way 36 thousand feet below the surface which makes him different in this area from most of his Justice League co-members and friends.

9 Super-Strength

It's a well-known fact that Aquaman is strong - but strong exactly he is? That's the question. He might not be on the same level as Superman, but that doesn't mean Aquaman is weak, not by a long shot. He possesses superhuman strength which is about 150 times higher than the maximum human strength. He's strong enough to throw a tank and stand against Wonder Woman in hand-to-hand combat and still perform admirably. However, depending on the comics, his strength is sometimes connected to how hydrated he stays, and the more water he loses, the weaker he becomes.

8 Durability

Punching Aquaman so hard that one would knock him out is no easy task, considering his durability. Aquaman's enhanced physiology gives him the power to bear impacts that would kill an ordinary (non-powered) human and even severely injure an average Atlantean. As said above, Aquaman claims he's able to travel down to 36 thousand feet below the level of the ocean where the pressure must be enormous. He's not resistant to large weapons but can take a bullet and still keep on fighting.

7 Super-Speed

When it comes to speed, Aquaman is no Flash but he also couldn't be called slow - especially when he's moving underwater. His regular speed of swimming is about 100 miles per hour, but he's slower on the surface than he's underwater.

That's why when he was fighting Wonder Woman on land and couldn't win, he decided to take the fight to the place where he was at his strongest - underwater. When he's distressed, Aquaman's speed can be even higher, depending on the circumstances.

6 Reflexes

Aquaman's reflexes are not on the same level as Superman's or the Flash's but he can still hold his ground in a fight against most opponents. Again, it depends on what source material fans take into consideration when judging Aquaman's reflexes, but in the older comics, his reflexes are about 15 times better than those of an average human. In other words, playing table tennis against Aquaman wouldn't be a good idea unless one is as fast as the Flash.

5 Telepathy

Aquaman's ability to communicate with sea life is what made other people laugh at him and judge him as the person who "talks to fish". But that's an understatement of what Aquaman can actually do. He can control sea creatures or at least ask them to come to his aid when he needs it. He could force them to obey him but instead, Aquaman chooses to ask for their help since he realizes he would very easily lose their friendship and respect if he forced them to do something they don't wish to do.

4 Accessing The Clear

Aquaman's character has changed throughout the years, and so did his powers. Before the New 52 came along and replaced the previous continuity, Aquaman had a special ability - access to the Clear.

The Clear is a force that can bind all the life in the sea and gives powers to superheroes like Aquaman, those who have a strong connection with the ocean and water. When he was connected to the Clear, Aquaman, for example, had stronger telepathic powers.

3 Super-Hearing

Aquaman has more than just superhuman sight. He also possesses enhanced hearing - at least as long as he's underwater, in the sea. That's when he can hear even the faintest sounds. What's more, he also has something of a sonar which allows him to hear the heartbeats of people who are in submarines. He can also notice his enemies when they're nearby when to the water's movement - before he actually sees them.

2 Flying

Aquaman and Wonder Woman flying

A lot of people dream about being able to fly. That's one of the reasons why it's such a popular superpower, whether natural (in Superman's case) or helped by a machine (Iron Man). Aquaman lives underwater a lot of the time but he can also fly, not only swim really fast. That's thanks to the recent comics which gave Aquaman this new power. He was blessed by Poseidon, the God of the sea, and learned how to fly.

1 Controlling Weather

Aquaman Water Bearer

It makes sense that Aquaman would have the ability to control weather since he's so connected to one of the important weather elements - the water. Aquaman can not only control the sea but also the weather. More specifically, while his powers in this area aren't on the same level as Thor's, he can create and control tidal waves which is an effective strategy against his enemies.
