While plot details surrounding the upcoming Blue Beetle film are currently scarce, fans have been given a sneak peek at the DC Extended Universe movie's logo, which seems to be influenced by the style of the 1990s.

Shared on Instagram by artist Elpidia Carrillo, the photo featuring the logo shows it on the back of a chair. The words of the title are appropriately colored blue, and the logo has a graffiti-style design to it. Despite the tone and look of the logo, Blue Beetle will focus on the third Azure Avenger Jaime Reyes, who debuted in 2006 and was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner.

Jaime will be played in the movie by Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña, who discussed his costume for the project earlier this year, though he did not go into much detail about it. "We've done two suit fittings," Maridueña commented. "They're hoping that I get more buff by the time we actually start filming. But I've seen the suit, and it looks awesome." Maridueña also stated that since Blue Beetle is his first movie, it "[felt] a little bit intimidating" and he was both nervous and excited. He added, "[Blue Beetle's] gonna be important, not only for Latinos and to see people of color, brown people, represented onscreen, but also show a story that we haven't really seen before."

The film's director, Angel Manuel Soto, also talked about working on it last year, saying, "It is an honor to direct Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero film for DC. I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can't wait to make history together."

Regarding the costume, concept art from last year's DC FanDome showed what Blue Beetle will look like in the film. During the panel that revealed the artwork, Maridueña jokingly called out other superheroes who "would think they have the best superhero suit" for a rap battle. "We got the best suit over here at Blue Beetle," he concluded. "And I haven't even seen it, that's how confident I am."

Outside Maridueña, Blue Beetle has cast actors Susan Sarandon and Raoul Max Trujillo to play villains Victoria Kord and Conrad Carapax/ Carapax the Indestructible Man. While the former character was created for the movie, she shares the surname of Jaime's predecessor Ted Kord, though whether or not there is a connection between them is unknown at this time.

Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, Blue Beetle is currently set to open in theaters on Aug. 18, 2023
