Warner Bros. and DC Films' upcoming Blue Beetle has landed Charm City Kings director Angel Manuel Soto.

"It is an honor to direct Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero film for DC," Soto told TheWrap. "I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can’t wait to make history together." The outlet notes that production is expected to begin this fall.

Blue Beetle was announced in November 2018, but there's been little movement on the project since then and no actor is attached to the lead role.

While there have been several incarnations of Blue Beetle in the comics, the film will center on Jaime Reyes. Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner, Jaime debuted in 2006's Infinite Crisis #3 and receives his powers via an alien scarab. The character has appeared in animated form and was a fan-favorite in the Injustice video game series.
