From World's Finest to Brave And The Bold, no one was quite as good at pairing up heroes together like DC Comics. It was only natural that DC (responsible for the first superhero team in comic books) would also lead the charge for dynamic duos... and yes, their villainous team-ups are pretty iconic as well.

So here's a look at 10 of the best pairings in DC, but the keyword is pair. This means that sidekicks like Robin will not be appearing, and teams like the Legion of Doom or Justice League won't be either.

10 HEROES: Green Arrow And Green Lantern

Green Lantern/Green Arrow by Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams

Well, they both like the color green, for starters. But this pairing actually had an official comic run together for a few years in the 1970s, and it was a great series. Oliver Queen was a pretty rebellious and hot-tempered anarchist, while Hal Jordan was pretty liberal, but was a bit more of a stickler for law and order and respecting authority. They road-tripped together, and in classic 1970s fashion, found themselves while also discovering the underbelly of the USA, dealing with drugs, politics, racism, and more.

Green Arrow was a shoo-in for team-ups leading up to this point (and after it) and wouldn't get his own comic series despite existing since 1941 until he had a limited series in 1983.

9 VILLAINS: Black Manta And Ocean Master

This is such a basic pairing that it's impossible to leave out of the list. Why wouldn't Aquaman's two arch-enemies team up with each other, especially since both are so heavily ocean-based? Whether it's a love of eco-terrorism, disdain for Aquaman, or a business transaction, Ocean Master and Black Manta are pretty good when they're put back to back.

8 HEROES: Green Lantern And The Flash

Flash+Green Lantern

One guy can make shapes out of virtually anything he imagines with a power ring, and the other can break time and space because he runs so fast. That alone is a really fun combination of powers to pair together, but the fact is, the Flash and Green Lantern work really well off of each other. And interestingly, this dynamic seems to apply for multiple iterations of the duo, such as Hal Jordan/Barry Allen, or John Stewart/Wally West. Whichever pairing it is, both heroes have to have abundant creativity when using their powers, and all of them have incredible courage, as well as quips.

7 VILLAINS: Captain Cold And Heat Wave

Ice and fire coming together would, of course, have to be a disaster, and Captain Cold and Heat Wave at times can be their own undoing. The Flash Rogues are the most notorious group of baddies that team-up constantly in order to achieve their goals, but of all the possible groups and pairings, Heat Wave and Captain Cold tend to have the most fascinating dynamic. They tend to have rivalries with each other and bump heads on heists frequently, but they also share a mutual respect for each other, and at times, might even be friendly.

6 HEROES: Black Canary And Green Arrow

Fighting crime with your lover might seem like a pipedream, but Black Canary and Green Arrow do just that. Green Arrow is great at teaming up with pretty much any hero in DC's roster, but his chemistry and passion with Black Canary tops any other.

His boxing glove arrows compliment her heels to the throat and her ear-piercing shrieks work off his sonic arrows. Their office romance is the best one in its effectiveness and its durability.

5 VILLAINS: Riddler And Hush

Riddler and Hush

Riddler and Hush teamed up once, but boy, what a team-up it was. In Batman: Hush, Batman's entire world is thrown into disarray by the mysterious Hush, who seems to know just how to push his buttons as both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Over a lengthy investigation and many deadly experiences, Batman comes to realize that Hush was able to do so much damage thanks to none other than Riddler, a villain Batman himself could frequently underestimate. With their combined hatred for Batman, their combined knowledge, and their combined resources, they were responsible for one of the Dark Knight's most drawn-out challenges.

4 HEROES: Batman And Superman

Let's address the elephant in the room right now: Yes, Batman vs. Superman was bad, yes, the Martha line is a goof. But beyond that disastrous attempt to finally bring the two most iconic superheroes together on the big screen, the pairing of the World's Greatest Detective and the Man of Steel is among the best ever formed. Superman is a borderline god-like boy scout who puts on the alter-ego of Clark Kent to fit in and is liked by all. Batman is a rich guy with problems who keeps to himself, and his alter ego to fight crime has become his actual personality.

It's hard to think of two such different characters, and they can clash often, but when they come together, there's little they can't do, and their biggest shared qualities are their hearts of gold and dedication to protecting others.

3 VILLAINS: Lex Luthor And The Joker

The two most iconic superheroes also have two of the most iconic villains to oppose them. The problem is, when Batman and Superman team-up, they don't go out of their way to reap misery. Joker and Luthor don't team-up often, because Joker is a one-goal guy, and because Luthor isn't fond of Joker. But when they do, Joker's creativity and ingenuity combined with Luthor's brilliance and resources can form Justice League-level threats. That is if they're not at each others' throats.

2 HEROES: Blue Beetle And Booster Gold

The Blue and Gold team Blue Beetle and Booster Gold

Blue Beetle (the Ted Kord version) and Booster Gold are downright inseparable at this point. It's impossible for a comic reader to say one name without thinking of the other. Their partnering as superheroes was nothing but fun, and their friendship might be the most admirable and engaging in DC's entire history. The comedic and dramatic beats in their story are always bullseyes, and their differences and similarities ensure that their outings never get tiring. From pranking Martian Manhunter to investing Justice League money into a tropical island casino, their tales were always heartwarming and hilarious.

1 VILLAINS: Poison Ivy And Harley Quinn

The Poison Ivy/Harley Quinn pair up has grown in popularity since its inception in Batman: The Animated Series. The two gal pals are both Gotham City inhabitants who have very much evolved since their first appearances. Poison Ivy was essentially a one-note femme fatale and Harley Quinn was second banana to the Joker and in an abusive relationship with him. But as time passed, they've become feminist icons, and on top of that, more nuanced and engaging characters. Putting them together doubles the chaos and the fun, and yes, it seems sometimes they can be a bit more than just friends, making for an oddly sweet romantic relationship between two sociopaths.
