DC Expands Batman: The Animated Series Universe With New Action Figures

New toys from DC Collectibles imagine Jason Todd/Red Hood, Slade Wilson/Deathstroke and Azrael in his Batman outfit in the style of Batman: The Animated Series.

The image, which DC Collectibles posted on Instagram, reveals the figures. The toys were first shown at NY Toy Fair 2019, and it's unclear when they might be released and what their price points might be at this time. However, the post promises that more information will follow.

None of the three characters appeared on Batman: The Animated Series when it originally aired from 1992 to 1995. Following his death in 1988's "A Death in the Family" arc, Todd didn't reappear as Red Hood until 2005's Batman #635. His identity was then revealed in Batman #638. Considering that the character didn't even exist in that incarnation yet, it makes sense that he wouldn't be able to appear. As for Azrael, he became Batman after Bane broke the Dark Knight's back during 1993's "Knightfall" event, which is pretty close in proximity to the time that the show was airing.

Deathstroke, for his part, appeared as an antagonist on Teen Titans, which ran from 2003 to 2006. However, this costume for the character is quite unlike the one he wore in that series.
