Two of DC Comics' flag bearers, Batman and Superman, live for, almost, identical principles and fight for the same cause but that doesn't mean they haven't ever found each other at a crossroads. Be it Superman's highly destructive superpowers or Batman's affinity towards violence, both these popular characters have, sometimes, felt the need to stop each other.

It is pretty obvious that Superman is way out of Batman's league but that hasn't stopped Gotham's Knight to take the fight to the Man of Steel, although he has been on the losing side quite often. Here are a few losing experiences that Batman suffered at the hands of a Kryptonian machine.

10 Blackrock

DC Comics

Blackrock is the name of a DC supervillain who came from a different planet and he took control of Batman. It was an alien parasite, who used Batman as a host and enhanced Batman's powers by a huge margin. Blackrock used Gotham's Knight to go after Superman, taunting him and trying to beat the hell out of him. The Man of Steel doesn't hesitate and starts pounding on Batman. Blackrock is shocked to see the rage and he is eventually forced to leave Bruce's body. Batman is left bloody and battered at the end of it all.

9 Under Control

Poison Ivy Batman Vines

Another Batman vs Superman story sees the old mind-controlling superpowers come to the fore. This time, Poison Ivy sends the Man of Steel to end Batman and Catwoman for good. Gotham's Knight knew what was coming and he tried to come up with a viable plan. He uses some Kryptonian weapons to gain an advantage over the Man of Steel but as soon as Superman recovers, he pelts Batman with all his might. It wasn't Bruce's night, after all.

8 Gods Among Us

DC Comics

Whenever Superman goes mad, it is not good news for his enemies or Earth. His rage is almost uncontainable and on one such occasion, Batman felt his wrath. Superman's love interests Lois Lane and Wonder Woman died and the Man of Steel went to the Batcave, thinking it was all Batman's fault.

Batman knew Superman is coming and he tried to do what he does best; plan ahead. Batman used Sonic Attacks on Superman and he also took a pill to make himself stronger. Batman's dominance lasts until his pill runs out and Superman easily breaks Bruce's back.

7 No Mercy

DC Comics

The New 52 brought a very intense storyline featuring Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern. With Darkseid's Parademons on the loose, Batman and Green Lantern approach Superman for help but the latter feels that they are in this position due to their own faults. A fight breaks out, with the Man of Steel tossing aside Green Lantern like he isn't even there. Batman tries to take the fight to Superman but he is overpowered with ease.

6 Working With The Government

Batman and Superman fighting in The Dark Knight Returns.

In one of Frank Miller's Batman Comics, Superman started working for the U.S Government and the Man of Steel was ordered to take down Batman, for good. He was given free will and although Bruce knew it was coming, he couldn't do anything to prevent the obvious from happening. Batman battled and lost the fight, but he was able to fake his death and go underground. It was a testament to Bruce Wayne's intelligence that he found a way out of an impossible situation.

5 Batman's Lost It

DC Comics

Once, Batman got a dose of Scarecrow's fear toxin and he started feeling unstable. Wonder Woman called Superman for help but little did the Man of Steel know that Batman is in no mood of chatting. Gotham's Knight smacks Superman with a roundhouse, sending him flying.

Superman calls for peace and tells Batman that he doesn't want to hurt him. But the fear toxin has engulfed Gotham's Knight and he starts threatening to take innocent people's lives. At this point, Superman's single punch knocks out Batman.

4 Elseworlds

Batman vs Superman

An Elseworlds story gives Superman a different background. Here, he lands in Russia and becomes the defender of socialism. Batman fights the Man of Steel as Gotham's Knight tries to trap one of DC's most powerful superheroes. Batman uses his tactical know-how to take away Superman's superpowers but the thrill lasts only for a short amount of time. Wonder Woman jumps to Superman's rescue and as a result, Batman leaves the scene, afraid that Superman would cook him with his Heat Vision.

3 Alternate Dimensions

Superman

Batman and Superman's battles have transcended dimensions. At one time, Kryptonite Man (made of Kryptonian energy) took over Batman. Superman's biggest weakness was staring him in the eye and Batman didn't have any control over his actions. Kryptonite Man knew that Superman would have to kill Batman to win this battle but the Man of Steel proved that he is one of the smartest superheroes around. Targeting pressure points, Superman is able to paralyze Batman's body, forcing Kryptonite Man to leave. Bruce's body had to pay a huge price, again.

2 Illusion Darkseid

superman-vs-darkseid

Due to an illusion that fooled Superman, Batman lost another fight against the Man of Steel. Maxwell Lord created a reality showing how Darkseid brainwashed Lois Lane, driving Superman mad. Expectedly, the Man of Steel went after Darkseid but in this illusion, Darkseid, in reality, was Batman. Even though Bruce tried to put up a fight, Superman's rage was too much to handle. He was beaten half to death and that too unnecessarily.

1 Kryptonian Weaknesses

DC Comics

Lex Luthor is a master of manipulation and he used Bruce Wayne to get at Superman. The iconic DC supervillain provided Gotham's Knight with Kryptonite and Batman thought he then had an advantage over the Man of Steel. Bruce wasn't careful with his weapon, though, as Superman used his Super Breath to blow the Kryptonite out of his hands. He finally proceeded to give Batman a beating but didn't kill him just to prove a point.
