After teasing the title earlier this month, DC Comics has formally announced Aquamen, a new series starring both the original Aquaman, Arthur Curry, and the new Aquaman, Jackson Hyde.

Aquamen is slated to launch in early 2022 -- more specifically, on Tuesday, Feb. 22. While DC editor Andrea Shea previously revealed that the new comic would be written by Chuck Brown (Black Manta) and Brandon Thomas (Aquaman: The Becoming), DC's official announcement has now confirmed that the book will be illustrated by Sami Basri (Harley Quinn, Superman). The first issue of Aquamen features a main cover by Travis Moore, card stock variant covers by Kael Ngu and Nick Robles, a 1:25 variant by Jim Lee, a Black History Month variant by Alexis Franklin and a blank sketch variant.

Aquamen spins out of the events of both Black Manta and Aquaman: The Becoming, the latter of which revolves around fan-favorite Young Justice character Jackson Hyde, aka Aqualad, proving he is worthy to take up the mantle of Aquaman. Teaming Arthur and Jackson up in this manner is sure to evoke memories of Spider-Men, the 2012 Marvel Comics limited series by Brian Michael Bendis, Sara Pichelli and Justin Ponsor that saw Earth-616's Peter Parker/Spider-Man join forces with Earth-1610's Miles Morales/Spider-Man for the first time.

"When a suicide bomber in Middle America is revealed as an Atlantean sleeper agent seemingly gone rogue, the Aquamen -- Arthur Curry and Jackson Hyde -- are on the case," the official synopsis for Aquamen #1 reads. "But it soon becomes clear that the tragedy was not just a single bad actor, but the beginnings of a much larger and more dangerous chain reaction… and the heart of an explosive Atlantean conspiracy! If Arthur's not careful, the secrets he's keeping -- from Mera, Tula, Tempest, Atlantis, the surface and even Jackson -- could cause a rift from which the Aquamen might never recover!"
