The last decade has been a pretty good time for Aquaman and Mera. They were brought back to prominence in the comics by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis in Blackest Night, Brightest Day, and Aquaman. Just recently, the two characters starred in the Aquaman movie, which grossed one billion dollars worldwide.

The superheroic couple works well together as a team. Both of them are tough as nails fighters and much more physically powerful than they get credit for. They complement each other very well- where one is weak, the other is strong. However, if these two were to clash, which one would come out on top- Aquaman or Mera? Let's break it down to see which one would win.

11 Fighting Skill: Mera

Aquaman wouldn't learn how to fight until he was older, but once he did he took to it very well. As a member of the Justice League, he got pointers from Wonder Woman and Batman and would become an expert in polearms, which helps when one wields Neptune's Trident.

Mera was trained in combat from a young age as part of the royal family of Xebel. In fact, she was trained as an assassin and was supposed to kill Aquaman but fell in love with him instead. She's trained for much longer and this makes her a better fighter than Aquaman.

10 Attitude: Aquaman

Both Mera and Aquaman are fierce combatants. They both have a warrior's mentality and won't hesitate to take the fight to their enemies. However, Aquaman is a little more level headed than Mera and this wins this category for him.

Mera has a very fiery temper and Aquaman knows this. He can figure out a way to take advantage of that, getting her to make mistakes. Of course, that's not to say Mera couldn't push Aquaman's buttons, but her temper is worse than his.

9 Long Range Attacks: Mera

Aquaman is very strong, so he can throw things and he has his trident, but other than that he doesn't really have any long range attacks. He can command sea life to help him in battle which would actually be pretty useful against Mera, since they would probably be fighting underwater.

Mera, however, has hydrokinesis, meaning she can control water. She's been known to form hard water constructs and can even drain a person's body of all its fluids if she has to. This gives her a distinct advantage at range over Aquaman.

8 Durability: Aquaman

Aquaman

Aquaman and Mera are pretty even in this category as well. Both of them can survive at the bottom of the ocean. They can both take hits from some of the strongest enemies around and keep fighting.

However, Aquaman has taken an RPG to the face, which is a feat that Mera can't match, and he can heal faster than her. Mera is very durable, but without a durability feat to match getting a face full of explosion, Aquaman wins this category.

7 Intelligence: Mera

As a monarch, Aquaman has to have a wide array of knowledge about his kingdom. He has to know diplomacy, strategy, and international law. However, his upbringing on the surface means that he learned most of these things later in life.

Mera, on the other hand, grew up in a royal family and was educated from a young age about the responsibilities of royalty. She knows much about the history of the undersea kingdoms and has even acted as an ambassador for negotiations between Atlantis and the surface.

6 Speed: Mera

The two of them are about even when it comes to speed- they can both swim at about Mach 5 and can run very fast on land due to their Atlantean physiology. However, Mera has a bit of an edge in this category.

In the water, she can use her hydrokinesis to propel herself faster than she could swim on her own if need be and on land, she's been seen avoiding a bolt of lighting. Aquaman has never shown reflexes like that, so Mera wins this one.

5 Strength: Aquaman

While both of them are very strong, Aquaman is just way, way stronger than Mera. Mera's carrying capacity is around seventy tons and she once was able to leap from the water to a plane that was two thousand meters in the air. She's pretty strong, but Aquaman has her beat.

Aquaman has been known to tow boats around and has lifted a hundred and sixty thousand ton ocean liner above his head. His greatest strength feat is holding up a tectonic plate. Mera can't match that.

4 Experience: Mera

Aquaman has been a member of the Justice League since its founding and has been fighting to keep his kingdom and throne safe for a very long time. However, he only took the throne of Atlantis as an adult.

Mera has been trained from childhood and has been fighting underwater for longer than Aquaman. While she may not have the same amount of experience with the Justice League as he does, she has worked with the team in the past. Her lifetime of training and conflict give her an edge over Aquaman.

3 Allies: Aquaman

While both have been members of the Justice League, Aquaman has spent way more time with the team and made friends among the members of the group. Mera knows them but they would definitely side with Aquaman over her.

While Aquaman and Mera are both royalty, Aquaman is in charge of Atlantis and can call upon the entirety of the sea and its resources. Mera, without her marriage to him, would only be able to call on one undersea city for help. Aquaman is handing her an L in this one.

2 Defensive Abilities: Mera

Both Aquaman and Mera are fantastically durable and very fast. As skilled fighters with superhuman physical abilities, they can avoid and parry attacks expertly. However, beyond that, Aquaman doesn't have much else in the way of defensive skills. He can call on sea life to take hits for him if he needed to.

Mera can use her aquakinesis to protect herself, using the blasts of water to get separation from her opponents and form bonds to slow them down. This gives her an advantage on the defensive front that Aquaman doesn't have.

1 Winner: Mera

Aquaman may be physically stronger than Mera, but Mera is his superior in so many other ways and that will win the fight for her. She isn't going to try and punch it out with him; instead, she'll find a way to keep herself away from him as much as possible and use her aquakinesis on him. Her endgame would be to get him out of the water and then just drain away all the water out of his body, leaving him a husk.
