According to Variety, Shepard is co-writing the film's screenplay with Matt Lieberman ("Dr. Doolittle: Tail to the Chief"). Charles Roven ("Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice") and Richard Suckle ("American Hustle") are producing.

While Shepard is probably most familiar to audiences for his acting roles, he's recently started helming his own projects. He's currently developing a remake of "CHiPs," and directed and starred in the crime-comedy "Hit and Run." Shepard was brought to Warner Bros.' attention for "Scooby-Doo" through his "CHiPs" collaborator, Jesse Ehrman.
