This Riddick movie seems like it's actually going to happen, so prepare yourself, Spinoff readers. As a big fan of both Vin Diesel and Pitch Black, I plan to be all over every development as it pops up. It helps that, from the sound of things, this is going to be the Riddick movie that Chronicles should have been. Richard B. Riddick doesn't need excessively flash visual effects ... he just need to be an unrivaled badass.
David Twohy, the character's creator and writer/director of the upcoming movie, took to his blog late yesterday with an update. The opening sort of says it all: "The hurdles seem to be dropping. The final turn is being rounded. The finish line (actually a starting line) seems closer than ever."
Twohy recently visited New York City to meet with Diesel. Why they didn't call me too is a mystery. The two talked Riddick, naturally, and the results of that conversation were good. They plotted out the larger picture of Riddick's trajectory, a grand master plan that Twohy expects to unfold over the next 15 years, assuming all goes well. We'll be starting with the upcoming sequel, which shoots this summer ... and then who knows where we go from there. Check out Twohy's newly posted piece of concept art for the upcoming movie, which he describes as "a tableau from the next movie."
