Warner Bros. has picked up a high-concept historical thriller about Isaac Newton for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" screenwriter David S. Goyer to produce.

Deadline reports that "Principia," from "Zero Dark Thirty" writer Christian Contreras, follows the pursuit of a criminal by the English mathematician and physicist four centuries ago. The title is a reference to Newton's 1687 book “Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica” (“Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy”).

Goyer, who has a first-look deal with Warner Bros., is no stranger to historical thrillers, having created "DaVinci's Demons" for Starz. He also has The Forest set up at the studio, where he's working with Joseph Gordon-Levitt on an adaptation of The Sandman.
