David Ramsey Joins "Arrow" Cast

"Dexter" alum David Ramsey has joined the cast of "Arrow," The CW pilot loosely based on DC Comics' Green Arrow.

Variety reports he'll play John Diggle, a military man turned bodyguard who's trapped in a battle of wits, loyalty and trust when he's hired by the wealthy Moira Queen to protect her son Oliver, who repeatedly eludes him. Stephen Amell, who had a prominent role on HBO's "Hung," was cast last week as Oliver Queen.

Created by "Green Lantern" screenwriters Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and "Fringe" co-executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, "Arrow" is described by CW executive Thom Sherman as "very provocative and sophisticated and edgy," and "not as comic book-y as 'Smallville' or other [superhero projects] from other networks."

"He doesn't have any superpowers, he's a very grounded character like a Jason Bourne - we use the term 'mambo,'" Sherman recently told Entertainment Weekly. "His skill-set is that he's an archer, but he also have physical strength and prowess. He's clever and able to devise ways of taking down a bad guy that are unique and fun to watch."

Berlanti, Guggenheim and Kreisberg, who previously worked together on ABC's "Eli Stone," will co-write and executive produce the pilot for Warner Bros. Television. David Nutter ("The Pacific," "Game of Thrones") will direct.

The 40-year-old Ramsey, perhaps best known for his role as confidential informant Anton Briggs on Showtime's "Dexter," currently appears as New York City Mayor Poole on CBS's "Blue Bloods."
