David Morse is one of those badass actors who can elicit a cheer from the right crowd simply for appearing on screen. It's hard to say why, but it's the way things are. So it's good news then that Morse is now officially a member of the cast of World War Z.
The news comes from Deadline, which has very little else to say on the subject. He'll play "a prisoner living in an abandoned jail," which sounds like a plotline out of The Walking Dead (possibly because it is). Unfortunately, it wasn't one of the narratives in Max Brooks' World War Z novel, which points further to the apparent creative departures we've been hearing about.
I want to be excited about this movie, even more so now that Morse is involved -- he joins Brad Pitt, Matthew Fox, Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale and others -- but this story change stuff is scary. It could turn out the right way, no question, but I'm automatically leery of any adaptation that seems to be making fundamental changes to the original text, as this one appears to be.
