David S. Goyer has acquired the rights to "Deeper," a psychological drama from "Chronicle" and "Victor Frankenstein" writer Max Landis. Goyer will produce under his Phantom Four banner, alongside Addictive Pictures.

According to Deadline, the film centers on a disgraced astronaut who sets out on a mission to reach the bottom of a newly discovered oceanic trench, thought to be the lowest point on Earth. There, he finds himself in a psychological, and physical, fight against unexpected forces.

Landis, whose "Superman: American Alien" debuted this week from DC Comics, also wrote the action comedy "American Ultra." He'll also serve as a producer on "Deeper."

Phantom Four's next release is the supernatural horror film "The Forest," starring "Game of Thrones" actress Natalie Dormer. The company is also producing the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman" for New Line Cinema.
