Artist Dave Johnson brought his dream Marvel/DC team up to life with a new piece that pits Batman against Wolverine.The artwork shows the two heroes above a city, preparing to battle one another. "Finally finished this piece I started on the Drink and Draw livestream!" Johnson captioned the image. Johnson's piece is inspired by the cover of a Marvel/DC one-shot titled Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man: The Battle of the Century, which also featured a Marvel and a DC character fighting each other in this location with these same poses. That cover was done by Carmine Infantino, Ross Andru and Dick Giordano, with Gerry Conway writing the issue.

In the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the comic book industry has suffered a major blow as Diamond halted distribution and comic shops across the country closed to adhere to social distancing rules. As a result, many comics creators have called for a crossover between DC and Marvel Comics to revitalize the industry after the shutdown.

Johnson has worked for Dark Horse Comics, Dynamite, Marvel and DC. Over the years, his work has appeared in a multitude of series like Coffin Hill, 100 Bullets, Lucifer, Batman Beyond and many more. Johnson even won the 2002 Best Cover Artist Eisner Award.
