An adaptation of Microsoft's popular video game series Gears of War was greenlit in 2016 by Universal Pictures. The upcoming film is being produced by Scott Stuber (Central Intelligence) and Dylan Clark (War for the Planet of the Apes) with Stuber developing the adaptation's story with Epic Games.

"I've been knocking on their door and badgering them and they are so sick of me asking calling them and asking them where they are with that project," Bautista admitted.

With his muscular frame and commanding presence, Bautista more than slightly resembles the shooter franchise's main character and has held his own in action films including Blade Runner: 2049, Spectre, and this year's Avengers: Infinity War reprising his role as Drax. The actor is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood, signing on last week to star in Dogtown, a film adaptation of the popular comic series Body Bags.

Gears of War is a sci-fi shooter franchise developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Studios. The story takes place on the world of Sera as monstrous creatures known as the Locust Horde emerge from beneath the surface, driving humanity to near-extinction. Freed prisoner Marcus Fenix leads the human resistance to push back against the Horde and fight for survival. The franchise launched in 2006 on the Xbox 360, spawning four sequels, a comic book series and novels.
