Dave Bautista once used a studio meeting to pitch a potential Gears of War adaptation.

Speaking to Collider about his passion for playing DC Comics villain Bane, Bautista said, "That happened to me one other time in my career. They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said 'I’m not interested, let's talk about [Gears of War character] Marcus Fenix...'"

The Gears of War video game franchise centers on the war between the Coalition of Ordered Governments and the reptilian monsters known as the Locust Horder. Marcus Fenix, a soldier for the Coalition, served as the series' protagonist for the first three Gears of War games.

Bautista has spoken about his desire to play Fenix in a film adaptation before and even appeared in Gears of War 5 as a reskinned version of Fenix. A Gears of War film has been in various stages of development, starting at New Line Pictures and Legendary Pictures before eventually moving to Universal -- who also produces the Fast and Furious films.

Bautista will next appear in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, which premieres in theaters on May 14 and on Netflix May 21. He also joined the cast of Rian Johnson's untitled Knives Out sequel in a mystery role.

Directed and co-written by Zack Snyder, Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Garret Dillahunt, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Raul Castillo, Tig Notaro, Theo Rossi and Ana de la Reguera. The film arrives in select theaters May 14 and on Netflix May 21.
