Darth Vader's Back in New "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" Trailer

The latest trailer for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" debuted Thursday night during NBC's coverage of the Olympics, and the two-minute clip culminates with a brief look at the return of the franchise's most iconic villain, Darth Vader -- well, mostly the back of his very recognizable helmet -- along with his signature breathing.

It had been previously announced that Darth Vader -- including James Earl Jones as his voice -- would appear in "Rogue One," and given the film's plot and spot in the Star Wars timeline, it only makes sense. "Rogue One" takes place before 1977's "Star Wars: A New Hope," and tells the story of a group of Rebels -- led by Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) -- on a quest to steal the Death Star plans. It's the first planned "Anthology" film in the Star Wars franchise, with a Han Solo solo film (starring Alden Ehrenreich in his first outing as the character) slated for 2018.

"Rogue One" also stars Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed and Forest Whitaker. Directed by Gareth Edwards, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is scheduled for release on Dec. 16.
