Darren Aronofsky’s Noah Greenlit

It looks like Darren Aronofsky will soon be setting his Noah’s Ark blockbuster — appropriately titled Noah — afloat. A press release today reveals that Paramount has officially greenlit the feature, with the departed Wolverine helmer set to direct. Production won’t begin right away, however, as Gladiator writer John Logan is coming in to give the script, penned by Aronofsky and Ari Handel, a rewrite.

“Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family’s journey,” Aronofsky said in a statement. “The imaginations of countless generations have sparked to this epic story of faith. It’s my hope that I can present a window into Noah’s passion and perseverance for the silver screen.”

We haven’t heard anything about this project since June, when the director was reported to be talking to Christian Bale for the lead role in the $100-million dollar movie. It’s not clear how those conversations went or if Aronofsky will still favor Bale after the rewrites are finished, but it looks for now as though this project will continue to move forward.
