While not much is known regarding Warner Bros.' upcoming New Gods movie, director Ava DuVernay has revealed the film will see Darkseid and the Female Furies make their way to the big screen.
DuVernay opened up her Twitter account to an #AskAva Q&A session, with some of the questions pertaining to the Jack Kirby-inspired film. When asked if fans will get to see the Female Furies in action, DuVernay replied, "How could any self-respecting Barda fan not include The Furies?! I’m looking forward to them so much."
Of course, another question ten minutes later asked about the ruler of Apokolips, Darkseid, with DuVernay replying with a simple, "Darkseid is."
Batman and Mister Miracle writer Tom King will co-write New Gods, with King recently revealing what it's like to collaborate with DuVernay, who's also co-writing the script.
"How do you answer that?," King replied. "It's a f-cking joy, she's amazing. She doesn't have an ego, she invited me out and asked what team I wanted to bring. She wanted to assemble people who knew [Jack] Kirby. And next week, I get to go off and work with her."
Created by comic icon Jack Kirby during his tenure at DC Comics in 1971, the New Gods are an extraterrestrial race who inhabit two worlds: the peaceful New Genesis, ruled over by the wise Highfather, and the hellish Apokalips, ruled over by the wicked Darkseid. Outside of their roles in the comics and the DC Extended Universe, the New Gods have appeared in other forms of media, such as Superman: The Animated Series and Young Justice.
Directed by Ava DuVernay with a script by DuVernay and Tom King, New Gods currently has no release date or cast announced.
