Batman and Mister Miracle writer Tom King will co-write New Gods, with King recently revealing what it's like to collaborate with DuVernay, who's also co-writing the script.

"How do you answer that?," King replied. "It's a f-cking joy, she's amazing. She doesn't have an ego, she invited me out and asked what team I wanted to bring. She wanted to assemble people who knew [Jack] Kirby. And next week, I get to go off and work with her."

Created by comic icon Jack Kirby during his tenure at DC Comics in 1971, the New Gods are an extraterrestrial race who inhabit two worlds: the peaceful New Genesis, ruled over by the wise Highfather, and the hellish Apokalips, ruled over by the wicked Darkseid. Outside of their roles in the comics and the DC Extended Universe, the New Gods have appeared in other forms of media, such as Superman: The Animated Series and Young Justice.
