Debuting on Topcow.com today is the trailer for The Darkness video game being produced by Majesco Entertainment and Starbreeze (Chronicles of Riddick) for next generation console releases of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s Playstation 3. The trailer was officially released at last week’s E3 Expo with a thirty foot wall image of The Darkness and multiple plasma screens running the trailer for all to see. Top Cow will also be screening the trailer and other game footage at Wizard World Philadelphia, San Diego Comicon and Wizard World Chicago.
“When I saw the trailer composed of actual game footage for The Darkness I was stunned and amazed at how great it looked,” says Top Cow founder and Darkness co-creator Marc Silvestri. “At first I thought it was just a cool looking cinematic, but when they told me it was actual gameplay I was blown away. It’s very cool to see something I designed and co-created being this well represented as a video game.”
The Darkness video game is centered on the story of Jackie Estacado. On the night of his 21st birthday, the Francetti family Don, Uncle Paulie, sends out hitman Jackie Estacado on a job. The hit turns out to be a trap and Jackie finds that Paulie wants Jackie dead. Later the same night, Jackie is possessed by “The Darkness”, an ancient demonic power that gives Jackie spectacular powers. The story revolves around Jackie and Paulie fighting over the future of the Francetti family, and of Jackie’s search for light and love in a dark and violent world.
“This year’s E3 was a highlight for me personally,” says Top Cow President Matt Hawkins. “Between the Majesco/Starbreeze Darkness game which looks amazing and our involvement with City of Heroes, Tomb Raider Legend and a few other not yet announced things Top Cow was all over the place. It’s very fulfilling to see year’s of hard work finally pay off.”
