Fox has released the first trailer for The Darkest Minds, a new film that channels some serious X-Men and The Hunger Games vibes.

The film, which stars The Hunger Games' Amandla Stenberg, tells the story of a group of runaways with tremendous powers who try to find freedom in a dystopian world that imprisons teens like them. Ruby (Stenberg) and her group realize they'll have to wage a resistance against the corrupted adults in power in order live freely and save other superpowered children.

According to the film's official description,

When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon this newfound family realizes that, in a world in which the adults in power have betrayed them, running is not enough and they must wage a resistance, using their collective power to take back control of their future.

Based on the book by Alexandra Bracken, The Darkest Minds is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and also stars Mandy Moore and Gwendoline Christie. The film is scheduled to hit theaters August 3.
