The following contains major spoilers for Dark Web: X-Men #1, available now from Marvel Comics

Over the past few months, the stage has been set for one of the most devastating and personal attacks on Spider-Man that fans have ever seen. Not only has Ben Reilly, now known as Chasm, joined forces with the Goblin Queen herself, but the two of them have also unleashed a demonic infestation across the entirety of Manhattan. Worse still, one iconic mutant hero is to blame for the commotion, even if Magik was only trying to do the right thing when she set it all in motion.

Dark Web: X-Men #1 (by Gerry Duggan, Rod Reis, Tom Muller, Jaw Bowen, and VC's Cory Petit) opens over what would otherwise be an ordinary night in Manhattan, only for unruly demonic hordes to turn the evening into a living nightmare. While the X-Men are quick to jump into action, Magik is just as quick to realize exactly where the trouble began. Unfortunately, that happens to be with her, or rather with the control of Limbo which she ceded to Madelyne Pryor not all that long ago.

The X-Men's Magik Caused Spider-Man's Dark Web

The name Illyana Rasputina has been synonymous with Limbo from nearly her very first appearance. It was in 1983's Magik #1 (by Chris Claremont and John Buscema) that Illyana was stolen away to Limbo by the demon Belasco, kicking off what has come to be the most well-known chapter of her life. In the years since, Magik has come to rule Limbo, lose her throne, and reclaim it more than once.

Illyana has also imparted total control over her former realm to Madelyne, whose personal history with the Hellish realm goes back nearly as far as Magik's own. Not long after discovering her true origins, she allied herself with the demons N'astirh and S'ym in the hopes of unleashing Hell on Earth. Like Illyana, Madelyne's time in Limbo has largely come to define her in the eyes of others. This lent all the more reason for Magik to hand the reins of Limbo over to Madelyne, especially when the latter was so desperately in need of anywhere to call her home.

Magik Can Save Krakoa - But What About the Rest of the World?

Of course, that decision has come back to bite everyone other than the X-Men thanks to Illyana's foresight when it comes to ensuring Krakoa's safety from Madelyne's demonic army. That won't protect any mutants off the island, however, nor does it do anything to protect the rest of the world from a Hellish invasion.

In fact, the only thing that will truly protect anyone at this point is likely to be Illyana herself. This isn't to say that the rest of the world's heroes are incapable of fighting back, but rather that few if any of them have the same experience that Magik does in that particular regard. Hopefully, she will be able to save the world when others can't, even if it means diving back into Limbo after having gone to such great lengths to never have to again.
