Following yesterday's teaser, the first trailer for "The Dark Tower" has finally arrived, giving fans of Stephen King's fantasy epic their first taste at what the journey to Mid-World has in store for them when the adaptation hits the big screen.
Originally announced back in 2010, "The Dark Tower" has faced numerous setbacks, from being dumped by both Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. to being pushed from February to August 2017. Now, with the official release of the first trailer, fans can (hopefully) rest assured that the film will arrive on time.
In addition to being the first in a planned series of movies, "The Dark Tower" has already spawned a spinoff television show based on the fourth book, which will also feature Idris Elba in the lead role.
Directed by Nikolaj Arcel, the ambitious adaptation of King’s sprawling 1982 fantasy epic "The Gunslinger" follows 11-year-old Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor), who uncovers clues about another dimension, and is whisked away to Mid-World. There, he meets Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), a lone frontiersman knight on a quest to reach the Dark Tower and save Mid-World. However, an ageless sorcerer (Matthew McConaughey) and assorted monsters stand in his way.
Opening Aug. 4, “The Dark Tower” also stars Abbey Lee, Katheryn Winnick, Fran Kranz, Claudia Kim and Jackie Earle Haley.
