Simon Kinberg, writer/director of the upcoming Dark Phoenix, has weighed in on which Marvel Cinematic Universe hero he'd like to see in an X-Men film.At the premiere of CBS All Access' The Twilight Zone, for which Kinberg is an executive producer, a Variety reporter asked which superhero he was "dying to see pop up in an X-Men movie" following Disney's acquisition of Fox. The longtime franchise producer only had to pause before coming up with his answer.

"I would say probably either somebody from Wakanda or -- or Iron Man," Kinberg said. "I mean, I love Downey; I've worked with him. I love what he does with that character. He created the tonal template for the MCU with the first Iron Man movie. So the notion of Iron Man popping up in X-Men, or Iron Man interacting with Deadpool, is pretty exciting."

It's unknown whether Kinberg will play a role in the X-Men franchise as it moves to Disney. However, it's obvious he's excited for its prospects as part of the MCU.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will oversee the X-Men moving forward, but it's unclear what Disney's plans are for the property. Dark Phoenix will premiere in June under the Fox banner, but even those involved with The New Mutants don't appear to know whether it will receive theatrical release.

But with Avengers: Endgame seemingly concluding Robert Downey Jr.'s contract with Marvel Studios, it seems unlikely that Kinberg's hopes for the actor to interact with Ryan Reynold's Deadpool will come to fruition.

Wakanda is a different story, however. In the comics, Storm and Black Panther married, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that the X-Man could appear in Black Panther 2.

Still, with Disney's acquisition of Fox, it's only a matter of time before the X-Men interact with the Avengers.

Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters and Jessica Chastain. The film opens June 7.
