DC’s Dark Nights: Death Metal is one of the most anticipated comic book events of the year, and based on writer Scott Snyder’s reaction, the initial sales are extraordinarily strong."So we just got the first numbers on DC DEATH METAL 1 and they’re far FAR beyond what we were hoping for," Snyder wrote on Twitter. "There’s no sufficient way to thank you for showing up for this one when there’s so much going on - so we're going to do our best to reward you on every page. You all rock."RELATED: DC's Death Metal Expands, Batman: Three Jokers Debuts in August 2020 Solicits

It might not seem that surprising that Death Metal is selling that well since its predecessor, Dark Nights: Metal, outsold DC Rebirth and became one of the best-selling comics of 2017. However, the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has made the future of the market unclear.

Snyder and artist Greg Capullo have been keeping readers updated on Death Metal's status throughout the pandemic, informing fans about delays, special features and how the event will address continuity.

Dark Nights: Death Metal #1, by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion and FCO Plascencia, goes on sale June 16 from DC.
