WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Dark Nights: Death Metal #1 by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion, FCO Plascencia and Tom Napolitano, available now from DC.

The first issue of Dark Nights: Death Metal featured a world overrun by The Batman Who Laughs and his Dark Knights, while the heroes of the world were imprisoned in various scenarios. However, the worst is yet to come.

In the story section of its official Instagram account, DC has posted a prelude to the first issue of Death Metal, which hints at the "Darkest Knight of all." The prelude features the same creative team of Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion, FCO Plascencia and Tom Napolitano.

The prelude begins in Hell, which was once the island of Themiscyra. There, Wonder Woman and the burnt, desiccated corpse of Swamp Thing discuss the state of the world and their allies, with Diana proclaiming to take the world back. Meanwhile, The Batman Who Laughs witnesses Batman using his Black Lantern ring to raise an army of the dead and gathers his own allies. In addition to the Tyrannosaurs Rex Batman and Sorcerer Batman, there is a being who is said to be the "final, secret evil Batman."

This Batman was unlocked from his secret prison when Diana killed The Batman Who Laughs. What makes him so terrifying is yet to be revealed, but his ascension may spell doom for the heroes of the DC Universe.

Dark Nights: Death Metal #1, by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion, FCO Plascencia and Tom Napolitano, is now on sale from DC.
