Though Cillian Murphy would eventually appear in the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight film trilogy as Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow, the actor revealed that he initially auditioned for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Murphy revealed, on The Late Show with Seth Myers, that he got far enough in the audition process to try on a version of the Batsuit. However, the actor wasn't confident in his chances of receiving the role. "It was obvious that Christian Bale was going to be Batman," Murphy said. "At that time, it was clear, and he's such a magnificent Batman and Bruce Wayne."

Murphy went on to describe being in the Batsuit, saying, "I think it was the Val Kilmer suit -- they let me try it on -- which they had to adjust slightly. But it's a weird thing. You put it on, you put the cowl on, and your voice drops. It drops a couple of octaves."

Murphy appeared as the Scarecrow in all three instalments of Nolan's trilogy. Since then he has appeared in several successful projects, including the BBC series, Peaky Blinders, and the upcoming A Quiet Place Part II, in which he will appear as a survivor of the post-apocalyptic world presented in the first film.
