Dark Knight Rises, Thor 2, Nonplayer: Aug 5th Comic Reel

In anticipation of an uncontrolled set-pic getting out there, Warner Bros has released an official photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. Of course, we have it here at CBR:

Feel free to nitpick. Here's mine: that ponytail makes her easier to catch.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

Bleeding Cool and various other sites are reporting that sometimes "Game of Thrones" director Brian Kirk is in negotiations to helm the sequel. If everything gets signed, it will be the director's debut film and, really, the sort of project a TV director should take on when making the leap to major motion pictures.

Variety reports that Warner Bros has picked up the rights to the Nate Simpson Image comic series. Here's how the industry trade describes the premise: "a sci-fi/fantasy story about Dana Stevens, a brilliant young woman who retreats from the dismal workaday world of the future into the digital fantasy realm of Jarvath, where she's a fearless warrior." I had a summer like that ... of course, it took place in Middle-earth.

Yesterday also saw the reveal of actor Henry Cavil in his Superman costume (which is available here at CBR):

While plenty of the comments in the CBR forums have revolved around his haircut (which is odd), my initial pause came from the raised S-Shield. Like all pre-"Superman Returns" media, I always saw the shield as something printed or stitched right into the costume (depending on whether Ma Kent or Jor-El made it). Also, doesn't a raised shield create drag while Clark is flying? And while I'm on the topic, why must all DC characters have texture in their costumes? I get it for Batman, but aliens like Superman and the Green Lantern suit should be smooth and otherworldly. Nitpicky, I know, but we all have our own concept of how these character should look and any deviation feels like an in-grown toe nail. Meanwhile, DC's Source blog confirms the presence of several actors in the film, including Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner.

Directed by Zack Snyder, release date: June 14th 2013

Also here at CBR, we have a report from the "Ghost Rider" panel at Comic-Con. "First of all, Blaze has been living for several years now having his head catch on fire, so it's affected his mood. He's a bit more sarcastic, edgy, ironic," said star Nicolas Cage, whose own head was reportedly not ablaze. "I didn't get to play Ghost Rider in the other movie. So I really got to think about that; how it would move. We talked about it and how we could mess with your minds. Just be a little bit mysterious and scary."

Release date: February 17th, 2012

Heat Vision reports that GK Films has picked up the rights to the Image comic book written by Sam Sarkar, who also happens to be an executive at Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil. That company will also be involved in producing the film, which centers on a "group of divers who, off the coast of Nov Scotia, uncover a sarcophagus with unusual remains and inadvertently unleash an ancient evil." Y'know, I had a summer like that ...

Marvel wants to make a movie based on their sci-fi series, Twitchfilm reports. "It appears they have now decided to move ahead with the project as sources tell Twitch the film version is now in active development. Expect the on-screen Marvel universe to get a bit bigger soon," they write. Honestly, the weirder Marvel movies get, the better.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Make-up F/X guru Greg Nicotero is set to direct a series of webisodes based on the hit AMC series. "Shooting next month, the webisodes follow 'Hannah' and her children who take shelter in her ex-husband's house from a horde of zombies," they write.

After three weeks of whirlwind travel, reporting, Comic-Con, costumes, the Con-Crud virus, and aliens, I'm hunkering down and avoiding the world for a few days. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of becoming a hermit.
