WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child #1, by Frank Miller, Rafael Grampá and Jordie Bellaire, on sale now.
Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child -- the latest tale from Frank Miller's Dark Knight Universe -- has officially launched from DC Comics. As such, series artist Rafael Grampá has opened up about the comic a bit. And he claims it is home to the new most powerful character in DC: the Golden Child himself, Jonathan Kent.
In the Dark Knight Universe, Jon kent is not the son of Superman and Lois Lane, but that of Superman and Wonder Woman. The younger brother of Lara Kent, aka Supergirl, this version of Jonathan appeared as a baby in The Dark Knight III: The Master Race. Now a few years older, Jon has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in The Golden Child.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Grampá described Jonathan as "basically the most powerful character that the DC Universe has seen, ever." He went on to describe The Golden Child as a whole as being "about a new generation. When we started working on this, I said, 'I'm really going to miss Superman and Batman,' but I really didn't miss them at all. We're seeing the youth teaching their elders."
Set several years after the events of The Master Race, The Golden Child follows Carrie Kelley as the former Robin comes into her own as Batwoman. Carrie must unite with Lara and Jonathan Kent in an attempt to deal with a new threat that has made its presence felt in Gotham City.
Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child is written by Frank Miller and illustrated by Rafael Grampá with colors by Jordie Bellaire. The 48-page prestige format one-shot is on sale now from DC Comics.
