Zodiac Starforce Returns in July With Cries of the Fire Prince

The elite group of magical teenage girls will return in July with “Zodiac Starforce: Cries of the Fire Prince,” the follow-up to 2015’s “Zodiac Starforce: By the Power of Astra” by Kevin Panetta ("Bloom") and Paulina Ganucheau ("Another Castle").

If Zodiac Starforce thought they'd get a break from protecting Earth against dark forces following their previous adventure, in which they defeated former member Diana and her mean-girl minions, they were wrong. In the new four-issue miniseries from Dark Horse Comics, they'll face a new villain.

In “By the Power of Astra," the squad battled monsters in between class — they’re still students, after all — until one of their own is infected with the darkness. The first volume ranked #67 on CBR’s Top 100 of 2015 list.

"Well, for me it’s obvious why I would want to do a team magical girl book: 'Sailor Moon,'" Ganucheau told CBR in 2015 about her inspiration for "Zodiac Starforce." "I don’t think there’s another story that’s affected me as much as that. It’s just all about teamwork and being better together. Their love triumphs over evil, and they look fabulous at the same time."

“Zodiac Starforce: Cries of the Fire Prince” debuts July 5 from Dark Horse Comics.
