Dark Horse Comics will publish a new 4-issue miniseries titled Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land. The miniseries focuses on a young Hellboy and his adoptive father, Professor Broom, as they are stranded on a mysterious island. Soon, they learn that there are monsters lurking in paradise.

Hellboy co-creator Mike Mignola and Tom Sniegoski will write the miniseries, with Craig Rousseau providing art. Colorist Dave Stewart and letterer Clem Robins round out the art team, with artist Matt Smith providing the series' covers. Mignola and a variety of other artists will provide variants for the series.

"Awhile back (when you could still do such things) I was at a convention in Boston and ducked out for lunch with Tom Sniegoski," Mignola said in a statement. "Years earlier we co-wrote a more-than-slightly insane novel together, GRIM DEATH AND JOE THE ELECTROCUTED CRIMINAL, and I brought up the idea of the maybe slightly insane globetrotting adventures of a very young Hellboy. Tom’s eyes lit up, as I kind of knew they would. So there was half the battle won, but we would need a special kind of artist to bring Tom’s madman energy to the page—and artist Craig Rousseau just happens to be that artist. And Craig just happened to be at that same convention, and when I told him the idea his eyes lit up just the way Tom’s had."

Mignola had previously written a graphic novel featuring a younger Hellboy titled Hellboy: The Midnight Circus, with Duncan Fegredo handling the art. That graphic novel saw a young Hellboy run away from the B.P.R.D., only to stumble upon a circus with demons among its membership.

Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land will go on sale on Feb. 17, 2021, from Dark Horse Comics.
