Dark Horse Comics is one of the few indie comics publishers to rise to prominence in the late 80s and maintain its popularity among fandom to the present. They have produced such classic comics as Frank Miller's neo-noir crime thriller Sin City and the dark fantasy series Hellboy by Mike Mignola. Such amazing comics are one of the reasons why Dark Horse easily can stand on par with the Big Two.

Great stories are driven by great characters and many of the best comic book characters are interesting because of their powers. Here are ten Dark Horse characters with the exact same powers as DC characters.

10 Koschei the Deathless & Vandal Savage

Koschei the Deathless famously appears in the Hellboy story "Darkness Calls" and has since gotten his own series. He is a major figure in Slavic folklore and in Mignola's universe he serves another legendary witch from Slavic traditions, Baba Yaga, whose godlike powers make her a figure to be both feared and respected. Koschei is a skilled warrior who cannot be killed.

Vandal Savage is an immortal neanderthal given his eternal life from a meteor that struck Earth. Being a neanderthal, he has greater strength than average humans. He's also had millennia to train in combat. In other words, he has the same powers as the comic book Koschei, but without the foundations in Slavic lore.

9 Roger & Frankenstein

Roger is a homunculus--a humanoid artificial construct created by alchemy and giving an artificial life. In the world of the Hellboy comics, there are only a handful of homunculi in the world and Roger is considered the most perfect example along with his brother. Both were made by the late medieval alchemist Edel Michrasse. Roger has enhanced strength and resistance due to his artificial body, though he does have his limits.

Frankenstin is a DC Comics character inspired by Frankenstein's monster in Mary Shelley's novel. He also has enhanced strength and durability, as well as an origin not unlike Roger's, since he is a golem made from reanimated corpses.

8 Liz Sherman & Heatwave

Liz Sherman is one of the characters from the Hellboy and B.P.R.D. comics by creator Mike Mignola. She is a pyromancer who conjures and controls flames, even being able to exert influence over mystical fires. As a child, her powers manifested in such a way that she accidentally burned her family to death, but as an adult she has gained a mastery over her abilities, training with monks in the Ural Mountains to better understand how to use them.

Heatwave is a Flash villain. While he once used a flamethrower, he has since internalized his powers so he can shoot flames from his hands. Though he is not as powerful as Liz, they share the same power.

7 Dancy Flammarion & John Constantine

The main character of Caitlin Kiernan's comic Alabaster, Dancy Flammarion is a girl who hunts monsters. She has demonstrated some basic magical abilities, including the ability to hear angels and ghosts, while she has a personal guardian angel who watches out for her. She's also a homeless girl from the American South who explores the tradition of the Southern Gothic in the purest way possible.

John Constantine is an occultist, grifter, and vagrant from Liverpool who has his fair share of dealings with all manner of creatures, be they ghosts, elementals, devils, or angels (all of which seem to be ticked at him about something). While he doesn't have a guardian angel exactly, three devils have worked to keep him alive as Hell is expected to break out in civil war over his soul when he dies.

6 Spaceboy & Robotman

Spaceboy is a character from The Umbrella Academy by writer Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Bá. Also known by the name Luther Hargreeves, he was a child astronaut who suffered an accident, resulting in his head being grafted onto the body of a Martian gorilla, giving him increased physical strength and the ability to breathe in space.

Robotman is a former NASCAR driver whose brain was placed in a robotic body after his body was destroyed. His metal body gives him increased strength and has allowed him to survive in other environments (plus, the lack of lungs means breathing isn't really a priority for him).

5 Gail & Catwoman

Gail is a character from Frank Miller's Sin City. She does not have powers in the traditional sense but she is a tough-as-nails pro domme who can fight crime and hold her own against hardened gangsters. She's skilled with a single-tail whip, knot tying, and a gun, while she has the street smarts to understand all the levels of crime from the seedy back alley dealers up to the upper echelons of government.

Catwoman is a cat burglar who operates predominantly in Gotham. Like Gail, she is just as familiar with street crime as the corrupt wealth hoarded by the uber rich. Also like Gail, she is not just a great fighter (though she is!), but is also skilled with ropes and a single-tail.

4 X & Deathstroke

X is not a particularly well-known character these days. Appearing as the titular anti-hero of the X comic series, he is a one-eyed vigilante who leaves an X-mark as a warning to his enemies. Anyone who gets a second mark likely won't survive the experience. He's a master of both swordsmanship and marksmanship and incredibly gifted in close-quarters combat, not to mention being blessed with a healing ability.

Deathstroke is the deadliest assassin in the DC Universe, a one-eyed killer who uses guns and swords. He's also a martial artist and has survived going up against half of the Justice League, healing from incredible wounds.

3 Abe Sapien & Aquaman

Abe Sapien is a character from the Hellboy comics. While he was a human scientist and occultist in the 19th Century, he was transformed into an aquatic humanoid, an ichthyo sapien. In addition to being able to breathe underwater and having developed a scaly fishlike body, he has mild telepathy and psychic abilities such as psychometry.

Aquaman might look human, but the King of Atlantis is half-Atlantean. He can breathe underwater and withstand the pressures of the deep sea. He also has mild psychic abilities, which he uses to command and communicate with sea life.

2 Lobster Johnston & Wildcat

Lobster Johnson is a masked vigilante from the 1930s in the Hellboy Universe. In the tradition of Golden Age pulp heroes, he fights with a two-fisted approach to justice, while also using a pair of pistols to stop his enemies. He occasionally uses other weapons from swords to chair legs.

Wildcat is another Golden Age hero--a DC Comics brawler who is part of the Justice Society of America. While he prefers hand-to-hand combat as an old school boxer, he has shown a competence with all manner of weapons and once singlehandedly took down the whole Injustice Society as he weaponized his environment against them.

1 Kevin & Talon

Kevin is a creepy psychotic killer in Sin City. He has razor-like fingernails he uses as weapons and has increased speed and agility, moving with stealth as he silently kills his targets. He also has a tendency of eating people.

The Talons are assassins used by the Court of Owls to dispatch their targets. Like Kevin, they move with deadly acrobatic speed, never making a sound unless they want to. While not cannibals, they have some pretty morbid rituals about handling the dead with magical metals. Also, their costumes have claw-like fingertips.
