Eager to see what Netflix has in store for its Dark Crystal prequel, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance? Well, the streaming service and BOOM! Studios are about to give you even more Skeksis and Gelflings in the form of a 12-issue comic maxiseries titled Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

The series will focus on the backstories of characters and events referenced in the upcoming Dark Crystal Netflix show. The comic series’ story follows a single Gelfling soldier who is sent on a mission to retrieve a rare artifact that seemingly has the power to secure peace once and for all… at the cost of irrevocably changing the world of Thra, of course.

Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will act as a companion to the Netflix series, with the first issue debuting on Sept. 25, while the show goes live on Netflix on Aug. 30. The comic book series will be written by Nicole Andelfinger, best known for her work on Adventure Time. Matias Basla of Sparrowhawk will provide art.

“There's something extraordinarily universal about the theme of good versus evil that seems to speak to so many people from so many walks of life. It's why I think The Dark Crystal has such a strong legacy, even to this day!” Said Andelfinger in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “When I was offered the chance to play in that sandbox, exploring the facets of that conflict through some pivotal Age of Resistance characters, well, I couldn't say no! With Matias Basla's beautiful art, I'm sure you'll come to love and adore these new additions to the world just as we have."

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a follow-up to Jim Henson’s 1982 film The Dark Crystal, which tells the story of Jen and Kira, Gelfling orphans who are tasked with healing the titular magical Dark Crystal before their planet’s three suns align. Failure to do so means the Skeksis will finally rule Thra. The new Netflix series will follow three Gelflings -- Rian, Brea and Deet -- who are called to action when they discover the sinister source of Skeksis power.

Several comic books exploring the world, history and lore of the Dark Crystal were published after the film's initial release, including the 2016 series Shadows of the Dark Crystal by J. M. Lee, Brian Froud and Cory Godbey.
