Beast Boy may still be alive after suffering a point-blank gunshot wound from Deathstroke, but the shape-changing Titan may never be the same after Dark Crisis.

A preview of Dark Crisis #3 opens with the Titans and their friends in a hospital as Garfield Logan, wrapped in bandages, slowly recovers from his injuries. Nightwing sits by his hospital bed grieving for his friend, while Donna Troy remarks that Beast Boy will recover, but the brutality of Deathstroke's ambush will not be so easily shaken off. According to Donna, "Mr. Terrific said Garfield will live, but there is something wrong... They think the trauma from the attack did more damage than the bullet did."

  • THE BATTLE OF THE EMERALD ARMY HAS BEGUN!
  • Hal Jordan has launched all-out war on Pariah and the Dark Army to avenge his fallen Justice League teammates—but how can one man stand in the way of the Great Darkness? Meanwhile back on Earth, Titans Tower has burned and Deathstroke’s army has continued its scorched-earth march across the planet. To stop Slade Wilson, the young heroes of the DCU might have no other choice than to turn to the brutal tactics of Black Adam…

How Was Beast Boy Injured?

Deathstroke and a collective of villains attacked Titans Tower in Dark Crisis #2, taking advantage of the death of the Justice League to wreak havoc on the other cornerstones of DC's superhero community. Before challenging Dick Grayson to a fight, Deathstroke brings out an injured Beast Boy and taunts his opponent, saying that he's always wondered if Garfield's shape-changing body actually housed a brain in his head. "So I tested my theory," Slade says as he dumps Beast Boy's body in front of Nightwing. "Bullet right to the face. He'll live, but... I think this one is gonna scar."

An enraged Nightwing lunges to attack Deathstroke and nearly sacrifices himself to protect his other friends, but Jon Kent saves him at the last moment. The fight between Deathstroke and the remaining heroes at Teen Titans Academy ends after Slade receives a directive from Pariah -- who appears to be influencing the mercenary's actions -- and departs the scene.

Dark Crisis, recently rebranded as Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, has thus far explored the fallout of the Justice League's apparent demise in Justice League #75. The finale of that issue saw Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and their peers fall in battle against a dark army controlled by Pariah, who appears to have been corrupted by the primordial Great Darkness. Black Adam emerged as the fight's only survivor, and assumes control of Jon Kent's newly-formed Justice League in the finale of Issue #2.

Unknown to any of these characters, the Justice League are actually still alive. Instead of outright killing them, Pariah merely trapped them in cosmic prisons, and the final page of Dark Crisis #1 revealed that he plans to use them to destroy the Multiverse.

Dark Crisis #3 is written by Joshua Williamson and illustrated by Daniel Sampere, with inks by Sampere, Daniel Henriques and Danny Miki, colors by Alejandro Sánchez and letters by Tom Napolitano. Main cover art is by Sampere and Sánchez, with variant covers contributed to by Lee Weeks, John Giang, Ethan Young, Dan Mora, Michael Allred, Laura Allred, Sampere, Henriques and Sánchez. The issue goes on sale Aug. 2 from DC Comics.
