MTV Studios is developing a new wave of original programming, including a reboot of the popular animated series Daria.
The newly launched production wing of MTV, MTV Studios has been developing scripted and unscripted original programming to air on streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon. Among this wave of new shows is Daria & Jodie, an update of the Beavis and Butthead spinoff. The project is being developed by writer Grace Edwards (Inside Amy Schumer).
Created by Mike Judge, Abby Terkuhle and Glenn Eichler as a recurring character on the iconic 1990s animated series Beavis and Butthead, Daria Morgendorffer received her own spinoff that ran on MTV from 1997 to 2001. Developed by Eichler and Susie Lewis Lynn, with the title character voiced by Tracy Grandstaff, the series followed the smart, acerbic Daria as she experienced all the trials and tribulations of high schoo, navigating a world seemingly devoid of common sense as the last sane teenager on Earth.
The series proved a hit with audiences, leading to two animated films and and a pair of television specials, the last of which aired in 2002.
The rebooted Daria joins plans for a live-action Aeon Flux series announced by MTV last week.
