This past October, actor Wilson Bethel revealed that several years ago, when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was first starting to take shape, he was up for the role of Captain America. And as he tells it, he very nearly got the part. With the release of Avengers: Endgame now upon is, Bethel tweeted for the first time in months to reveal a throwback photo that shows him sporting his Cap gear all those years ago, providing a glimpse of what might have been had things played out a little bit differently.RELATED: Daredevil Star Thinks Chances of Show's Revival Are 'Pretty Slim'

"#TBT to that one time when - well, whatever..." wrote Bethel. "It was a long time ago. And I'm good now. Great Even. Super F#%*ing duper. I don't dress my dog up as Thanos and chase him around the house or anything. Nope. Totally over it..."

"...NDAs expire, right?" he added in a follow-up tweet.

Of course, even though the role of Captain America ultimately went to Chris Evans, Bethel would find his way into the MCU yet. He appeared in the critically-acclaimed third season of Netflix's Daredevil as secondary antagonist Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter (aka Bullseye), a role he has received widespread praise for.

Bethel himself has praised Evans' long-running performance as Captain America, explaining that losing the role was devastating at first, but worked out for the best in the long run. "The fact that things have kind of come full circle in a way, and I still get to be a dude in a suit [as Bullseye], is pretty exciting," he said previously.
