Daredevil star Vincent D'Onofrio says he's more than ready to play Wilson Fisk/Kingpin again, should Marvel Studios invite him to.

The actor spoke with Screen Rant about fans campaigning for his return to the role in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe project. "I do take it as a compliment. I so badly want to play that character again," said D'Onofrio. "I love that character. I just have to wait for Marvel to ask me. I think it's very clear that I would, and the fans know that I would jump at the chance to play again. I just need to be asked."

D'Onofrio played Wilson Fisk in all three seasons of Netflix's Daredevil series, winning praise for his performance as the brutal and menacing yet unexpectedly soulful criminal. Two years after Netflix cancelled the show in November 2018, the actor's supporters even launched an online petition to #SaveDaredevil, in conjunction with Disney regaining the screen rights to the Daredevil property. And while D'Onofrio urged his Twitter followers to sign the petition, nothing ultimately came of it.

More recently, however, those same fans were reinvigorated by rumors that D'Onofrio will reprise Kingpin in the Hawkeye series on Disney+. The actor threw more fuel onto the fire by "liking" tweets from fans expressing their excitement for his return as the character after the first Hawkeye trailer dropped earlier this month. But, much like his comments to Screen Rant, D'Onofrio later took to Twitter to advise fans against reading too much into his actions.

"Silly to look deeper into the little pieces I write," he wrote. "I've been writing them for years now. Although I appreciate the fandom. Because I loved playing him in [Daredevil]."

As with Charlie Cox's continued denials that he's reprising Matt Murdock/Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home (despite reports to the contrary), it's difficult to say if D'Onofrio is being honest or if he's simply contractually obligated to deny his involvement with the Hawkeye series. If nothing else, fans can take solace in knowing the actor is just as enthused about the idea of Kingpin's return as they are.

All will be revealed when Hawkeye begins streaming Nov. 24 on Disney+.
