Between DC and Marvel especially, comic book companies are constantly pairing certain superheroes with others. Though the reason often varies as to why these iconic heroes are paired together, fans are always happy to see them interact with other characters while also showing the interconnectedness of the universe.

However, some pairings simply just go much better than others, with Spider-Man and Daredevil being a good example of that. Throughout the years, these two have developed a rather interesting relationship both in and out of costume. Furthermore, despite the ever-changing continuity in Marvel, these two always seem to be on good terms. Looking at some of their best and worst moments together, here is our list of the 5 best and 5 worst team-ups between Spider-Man and Daredevil.

10 WORST: Daredevil #54

While Matt Murdock has always been a bit of a darker character, his level of angst within this issue is a bit over the top. After faking his death and trying to steal from Karen Page, Daredevil finds himself in a rather short encounter with Spider-Man.

Though the fight itself is interesting enough, it is pretty short and ends with Daredevil running away, scared. With a strange depiction of the character and a very short appearance from Spider-Man, this issue just doesn’t offer nearly as much for the duo as others have, making it one of their worst team-ups to date.

9 BEST: TV Series

It’s no secret that the animated Spider-Man series was a great success, with many viewers today having fond memories of watching the series as a child. Of course, part of what made it so great was Spider-Man’s own interactions with other Marvel characters, with Daredevil being no exception.

In the episodes “Framed” and “The Man Without Fear” especially, audiences get a great glimpse at this version of Daredevil while also viewing one of the most faithful interactions between them. Despite a few minor changes from the comics, these two episodes alone capture a lot of the same spirit the duo typically has when they team up. With exciting thrills and action that is appropriate for all ages, it is easy to see why this is one of the best team-ups between them, despite not being from the comics.

8 WORST: Amazing Spider-Man #677

In actuality, Amazing Spider-Man #677 isn’t a bad story by any means, but it is one of the more disappointing encounters between Daredevil and Spider-Man. When Black Cat makes a return and gets arrested, Spider-Man must enlist the help of Matt Murdock in order to prove her innocence.

Overall, the issue is a fun team-up between them, but does very little in terms of exploring new ground for their relationship. Likewise, with Black Cat holding such a key presence in the issue, Daredevil can feel a bit overshadowed by the overall plot. Though not a terrible issue in general, it just doesn’t quite measure up to other team-ups the two have had.

7 BEST: Daredevil #9

As one of the most recent issues involving the two, Daredevil #9 by Charles Soule is a great example of how close the two are, despite the recent events in Matt Murdock’s life. Shortly before this story took place, Matt had erased his identity from public knowledge, meaning that no one knew he was Daredevil once again.

Interestingly enough, Spider-Man himself had gone through a similar experience several years before after the conclusion of the first Civil War event. Though Spidey no longer remembered the identity of his friend, he still noted the similarities in the situations. Not only was it a great issue overall, but it really drove home their relationship together, despite the changes that had been made.

6 WORST: Amazing Spider-Man #396

The “Clone Saga” era of Spider-Man is full of some questionable storylines for Spider-Man, with this issue being no exception. As part of the “Back From the Edge” storyline, this issue serves as the penultimate chapter while also featuring Daredevil in a major supporting role.

Once again, Daredevil is unnecessarily full of angst, and is even featured in one of his worst costumes. Furthermore, with a weak plot involving The Owl, it is easy to see why so many have forgotten this particular storyline. Given how it offers very little for Spider-Man and Daredevil especially, it is easily one of the worst team-up issues between them yet.

5 BEST: Daredevil #305 & 306

Despite being a little bit older, these two issues still feature some great interactions between some of Marvel’s best heroes. After a serial killer begins causing trouble for Daredevil, he enlists Spider-Man’s help in order to bring her in.

Though it is still more of a throw-away team-up between them, these two issues still feature great action, great story (given it’s only 2 parts), and especially great interactions between Spider-Man and Daredevil. While some stories are still a bit stronger, this one feels like a whole, complete package that succeeds in maintaining well-rounded edges throughout.

4 WORST: Avenging Spider-Man #6

Avenging Spider-Man isn’t known for being one of the best Spider-Man series ever, so it makes sense for his team-up with Daredevil in this series to be a bit weaker as well. Furthermore, certain events within the story did seem a bit odd and out of place, making it a bit weird for the two to team up in the first place.

Likewise, the issue also isn’t just a team-up between Spider-Man and Daredevil, but Punisher as well. With so much going on in the issue overall, it not only makes for a weak team-up between these iconic heroes, but a weak story as well. Though it is far from terrible, it does make it easy to see why the series only lasted 22 issues.

3 BEST: Spectacular Spider-Man #27-30

As one of the oldest stories on this list, these four issues of Spectacular Spider-Man actually remain one of the strongest stories featuring the pair, even today. While the story is a bit silly and ridiculous, it really shows a strong dynamic between the two and also shows just how great a character like Daredevil can be.

After Spider-Man finds himself blinded, he must then rely on Daredevil to get him through the rest of the story. At this point, readers really get a great glimpse into what life is like for Daredevil while also showcasing some great leadership skills from the character. Of course, Spider-Man’s lack of sight didn’t last long, but that doesn’t take away from this wonderful interaction between them.

2 WORST: Daredevil #354

When Ben Reilly was Spider-Man, things were definitely interesting throughout the Marvel universe. Though Daredevil had teamed with Peter at certain points throughout this era, this is one of the few interactions he ever had with Ben Reilly as the wall-crawler.

Though this issue does portray an interesting dynamic between Ben and Matt, it is not nearly as interesting or intriguing as Peter’s relationship with Matt. Granted, it makes sense for Marvel to explore Ben’s interactions with other heroes, especially given the scale of “The Clone Saga.” Unfortunately, there’s a reason so few like this era of Spider-Man comics, and seeing Daredevil and Ben in this issue is only further proof of why.

1 BEST: Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #110

Following the death of Jean DeWolff, Spider-Man was left in a rather emotional state. Towards the end of the event, things had gotten so bad for Peter that he nearly killed a criminal out of pure anger.

Thankfully Daredevil interrupted him in time, getting the Wall-Crawler to take his anger out on him instead. Throughout the fight, the two discuss their ideologies towards heroism and justice, giving the issue a lot of extra depth. In the end, Spider-Man realizes that his friend makes a lot of good points and calms down. Despite the fact that the two are at odds for most of the issue, the ideologies within makes for one of their best team-ups, as well as one of the best overall issues of Spider-Man.
