Episode 3 of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law poked fun at the show's numerous scheduled cameos - and there's one particular appearance that fans can't wait for. After his surprise cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it was announced that Matt Murdock a.k.a Daredevil played by Charlie Cox would return in She-Hulk in a supporting role. The two superhero lawyers will meet and match wits later in the series, marking his true introduction to the MCU.

She-Hulk has been met with mostly positive reviews; however, one of the rising complaints about the newest MCU entry is that the show is too goofy, despite it being advertised as a comedy since its announcement. This has caused some fans of The Man Without Fear to claim that he will be "ruined" by the show's exploration of his lighter side. However, this could not be further the truth. Though it's mostly overshadowed by the character's more tragic traits, Matt Murdock's sense of humor has been present since his conception.

It's easy to mistake Matt as a completely serious character, especially compared to his more upbeat legal partner Foggy Nelson, but Matt has definitely had his moments of quick wit. He's doled out his fair share of quips, even if they are a bit rarer than other vigilantes. He sometimes makes lighthearted comments about his disability, but he's more inclined to make a self-deprecating joke about past failures. He also finds joy in messing around with his super-powered buddies, mostly with Spider-Man who often brings out the funnier side of Matt. In fact, he's often the middle man in the trio "Team Red" consisting of the web-slinger and Deadpool, and Daredevil's deadpan reactions to the Merc With A Mouth's antics are sure to make readers chuckle.

A notable moment where Matt Murdock shows off his sense of humor is when he is outed as Daredevil. While he did take legal action against the newspaper that leaked his identity and in the end, no one was able to find any evidence of the defense attorney being Daredevil, rumors still stuck around. As the seriousness of the situation faded, Matt decided to embrace the rumors. This culminated in Daredevil #7 (Mark Waid, Javier Rodriguez, and VC's Joe Caramagna) where Murdock attended the annual Nelson and Murdock Christmas party in a sweater reading "I'M NOT DAREDEVIL" much to the amusement of the party-goers and the annoyance of Foggy. Now, Matt being a Daredevil denier has become sort of a running gag in the comics.

Despite this evidence, some still may argue that Daredevil may not fit into the zaniness of She-Hulk to which there is also an example of Matt Murdock going full absurdist. In a story called "The Spartacus Gambit" in The Amazing Spider-Man: Extra! (2008) #1 (by Joe Kelly, Chris Bachalo, Tim Townsend, Antonio Fabela, and VC's Cory Petit), Matt is in charge of defending Spider-Man in court for a lawsuit. There it is requested by the people for Spider-Man to be unmasked in order for the jury to know who they are charging.

Matt argues that there's no way to know if the Spider-Man they arrested is the Spider-Man that committed the crime- and to prove his point, Matt enlisted his friends like Iron Fist and Nightcrawler to swing around the courtroom in a Spider-Man costume. While Matt isn't participating in this extreme display, the fact that he arranged it proves that he's not afraid to get weirder and wackier to prove a larger point. Ultimately, it would be a disservice to this character if he wasn't allowed to be funny. The reason fans love the Devil of Hell's Kitchen is that he is a complex character. He struggles with balancing his personal and superhero life, maintaining his mental health and relationships, and upholding his morality are all presented in a relatable way for readers.

However, the struggle can't be all there is because life itself can't all be struggles. Matt Murdock can be both grim and serious with criminals and lighthearted and jovial with friends because he’s written to feel so real. So, to deny Daredevil the opportunity to be comedic denies his own reliability. Matt Murdock's reintroduction to the MCU provides him with a unique opportunity. Fans get to see an often overlooked aspect of his character in a way that doesn't undermine his more serious past endeavors. Frankly, Matt's drier and sarcastic tone and Jennifer's fun-loving and feisty humor mesh perfectly together and are sure to make an enjoyable interaction when it's time for them to face off.
