Matt Murdock has changed, but Wilson Fisk certainly hasn't, in the full-length trailer for Marvel's Daredevil Season 3, which shockingly depicts more than one person proclaiming, "I'm Daredevil."
The footage ends with someone who's definitely not star Charlie Cox wearing the familiar red mask, and wreaking havoc on New York as he seemingly executes the Kingpin's plan to give the city a new villain (that is, someone other than him).
Longtime Marvel Comics readers will no doubt recognize echoes of "Born Again," the seminal 1986 storyline by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli from which the new season draws at least partial inspiration. In that arc, Fisk learns Daredevil's secret identity, and systematically dismantles his life and ruins Matt Murdock's reputation. When an effort to kill Murdock fails, Fisk hires a violent mental patient to masquerade as Daredevil to lure his archnemesis out of hiding.
Showrunner Erik Olsen dropped some hints about this new adversary during CBR's visit to Daredevil's Brooklyn set, saying, “There is another character on the show who is a very physical threat to Matt, who in many ways is able to balance and/or even best Daredevil." The question remains, though: Who's behind the mask?
Arriving Friday, Oct. 19, on Netflix, Daredevil Season 3 stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Joanne Whaley, Vincent D’Onofrio and Wilson Bethel.
