The third season of Daredevil has reeled in Hart of Dixie alum Wilson Bethel in an unspecified regular role.
According to Variety, Bethel's character, whose name is still being kept under wraps, is that of an FBI agent that will "play a critical role" in the conflict between Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk. Bethel is best known for his role as Wade Kinsella on the CW's Hart of Dixie, which ran for four seasons. Since then, he has appeared on shows such as The Astronaut Wives Club, Blood & Oil, and How to Get Away with Murder.
The news of Bethel's casting comes after a character description surfaced online a few months back, suggesting that a second villain would be joining the third season of Daredevil. And while Variety is unable to confirm the character's name, the character breakdown does seem to align with the publication's report, indicating that Bethel may very well be playing none other than Stanley Carter, the original Sin-Eater.
The Defenders‘ closing scenes hinted that the third season of Daredevil could borrow elements from “Born Again,” the seminal story arc in which Kingpin learns Matt Murdock’s secret identity and systematically dismantles his life. While Sin-Eater doesn't play a role in that arc within the comics, he could possibly be taking over for the character of Nuke, who played a critical role in the first season of Jessica Jones.
Though a specific release date for Daredevil Season 3 has not been announced, the series will return in 2018.
